Harold Spiegel, 82, of Queens Village, N.Y., died suddenly January 23 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Queens Village, N.Y. for 45 years.
Mr Spiegel is survived by his sons, Michael Spiegel and his wife, Carol, of Newtown and Steven Spiegel and his wife, Elizabeth, of New Providence, N.J. He is also survived by his sister, Selma; as well as his nephews, Warren and Paul; his niece, Michelle; and his grandchildren, Perry and Ian of New Providence and Benjamin and Samuel of Newtown.
He worked as a lithographer for Valley Stream School District in Valley Stream, N.Y., before retiring in 1988. He served in the US Army as a private (1st Class), and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. During his tour of duty, Mr Spiegel played an integral role in the D-Day Invasion, Utah Beach Landing, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He was also a devoted Mets fan.
A graveside service for Mr Spiegel was held on January 25 at Beth Moses Cemetery, West Babylon, N.Y.
