Bible Study Planned At NCC
Bible Study Planned At NCC
Newtown resident Linda Manganaro will lead a Bible study at Newtown Congregational Church on Friday, February 10.
Mrs Manganaroâs program can be enjoyed on its own or as a lead-in to Church Women United/Newtown-Bethelâs upcoming annual World Day of Prayer worship service.
The Bible study is open to men and women of any religious affiliation. It will run from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm. Participants should bring a bag lunch and their own Bible. Coffee and dessert will be provided.
Reservations are not needed. The church is at 14 West Street in Newtown; call 426-9024 for directions.
Snow date will be February 24.
During the Bible study, participants will view a video called Coming To Say Goodbye, which shares the story of AIDS in Africa. Scripture will be from Matthew 26:1-13, in which the disciples saw the woman pouring ointment over Jesusâs head as a âwaste.â The Lord appreciated her vision and responded âshe has done a beautiful thing to me. Where ever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.â
Participants will discuss how they can minister to those in need.
A quote from the program
From the program notes: âJesus, in breaking into history, is the true Sign of the Times and all of us who love him need to be courageous, loyal witnesses, and signs of hope, standing strong in our faith and living the gospel through faithful service to the least, the lost and the last until he comes again and calls us home to him.â
âOur study will move us to action, and then we can become signs of Godâs presence in the world,â says Mrs Manganaro.
CWUâs 2006 World Day of Prayer will be celebrated on Friday, March 3, also at Newtown Congregational Church. The theme of that service will be âSign of The Times.â Laura Hickey, who served with the Peace Corps, will be the keynote speaker during that service.
As with the Bible study, all are welcome at the worship service. For additional information contact CWU/Newtown-Bethel co-president Darlene Jackson at 426-5192 or Newtown Congregational Church at 426-9024.
