Youth Programs
The Teen Center will be open Friday, February 2, from 2 to 5 pm, for Middle School Students!
Sibshops will meet on Monday, February 5, from 5 to 6 pm. This group is for children in grades one through six who have a brother or sister with special needs.
Children of Divorce will meet on Monday, February 5, from 6 to 7. This group is for students in grades one through six.
HSYAB will meet on Monday, February 12, at 2 pm, in the high school cafeteria. Agenda items will be projects for the remainder of the year and also charity fundraisers.
Super Sitters â Another course will run on Tuesdays, beginning on February 27 and run every week through March 27. Time is 3:15 to 4:45 pm each Tuesday. The fee, for the five sessions, is $50, which includes all materials and snacks. Space is limited and this course tends to fill quickly. To register, call NYS at 270-4335.
**NEW** Sports Conditionin, Weight Training & Cycling â Newtown Youth Services is pleased to partner with The Fitness Loft, a new gym in town, to offer a six-week program for middle school girls and boys. Boys will begin their sessions on Monday, February 26, and meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Girlsâ classes will begin on Tuesday, February 27, and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both classes will meet for a total of 12 sessions over the six weeks from 2:15 to 3:15. The cost is $120 and will take place at The Fitness Loft on Simm Lane. Groups For Moms
Moms of Infants â For ages birth to one year will meet on Tuesdays, from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335 to register.
Gym Time is held on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 am, and is for preschool children. The fee is $30 and the group meets at the Edmond Town Hall Gym.
Support Groups
Grandparentsâ Group â The Second Time Around: Raising Your Childrenâs Children is an ongoing support program that meets on Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 pm. There is no fee.
Hope and Support will meet on Mondays, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Parents or caregivers with questions or concerns about a childâs possible or confirmed substance use or abuse are welcome to attend this group. The Hope Group will not meet on school holidays, school breaks, or on snow days.
**NEW** NAMI Support Group for relatives and caregivers of the mentally ill. Join in a confidential and supportive setting to discuss and share information, resources, and fellowship twice a month. The group will meet on the first and third Monday of each month from 10:30 to 12:30 at Newtown Youth Services, 10 Glen Road, Sandy Hook. For further information, contact Laura Miller Kurtz, 313-0412.
