Boys 7th

Newtown 47, Redding 31 – David Lucia dropped in nine points and had a sparkling defensive effort to lead Newtown to the win. Anthony Berrarducci and Taylor Steimle combined for 15 points.

Newtown 54, New Fairfield 17 – Kyle Wilcox canned 10 points while Taylor Steimle added nine and Trey Trudell contributed eight to lead the locals in a rout of New Fairfield.

Girls 6th

The Newtown girls sixth-grade travel basketball team played at half-time of the Yale/Dartmouth women’s game last Saturday. The girls received a standing ovation from the crowd, which enjoyed a 63-56 Yale victory. Members of the Newtown team include Suzie Gissen, Maddy Good, Meaghan Harkins, Erin Kenning, Claire Miles, Bridget Power, Stephanie Roman, Tressa Scott, Samantha Steimle, Brittany Tolla and Julia Trudell. The team is coached by Vin Harkins and Ken Good.

Boys 6th

New Canaan 58, Newtown 39 – The locals battled hard but were unable to overcome New Canaan’s significant size advantage in the front court and saw their six-game winning streak come to an end. Kevin LeBlanc canned 14 points and Conner Quinn added nine in the loss.

Newtown 48, Trumbull 34 – The locals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, improving to 14-8 overall. Christian Barrett popped in 10 points while Nick Gerbo added nine and Dan Hebert contributed seven.

Girls 5th

Ridgefield 28, Newtown 19 – Mary Joe Rossi led all scorers with 15 points, but it wasn’t enough to lead the locals past Ridgefield. Rebecca Grant and Carly Ferris also scored.

Danbury 19, Newtown 16 – Danielle Shine and Jessie Principi popped in four points each to lead Newtown. Mary Joe Rossi, Kerry Scallon, Kristie VosWinkel and Jaclyn Daily all had two points.

Boys 5th

Newtown 36, Darien 33 – Matt Mossbarger played an outstanding game at the point and scored eight points in a narrow win over Darien. Mike Davis and Jim Parker combined for 15 points and played well in the middle. Tremendous defensive efforts were turned in by Connor Gallagher, Grant Ricketts and Jonah Muniz.

Junior Girls

Knicks 30, The Rebels 22 – Breanne Lubinski poured in 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Knicks slipped past the Rebels. Deanna Tassinari added six points and Jessica Haitz dished off eight assists. Katie Cummings made four steals. For the Rebels, Ashley Cirone dropped in 10 points as Megan Gibbons (6 assists), Audra Sarna (4 steals) and Maria Dutsar (8 rebounds) played well.

Da Bears 22, Huskies 16 – Kelley Gaston and Christina Naldini combined for 10 points and Emma Fiore made five steals as Da Bears rallied in the fourth quarter for da win. For the Huskies, Sarah Pettinelli and Laurel Speed combined for 10 points and Emma Herring made six steals.

Hurricanes 17, Celtics 16 – Carrie Gehrman and Casey Rutter popped in four points apiece and Kara Middeleer made eight steals to lead the ‘Canes. Victoria Picerno and Stephanie Perrotti played well. For the Celtics, Cady Jackman popped in eight points as Caitlin Young, Shannon Bara and Marissa Cucco had nice games.

Junior Boys

Rockets 49, Hawks 36 – Rob Carroll canned 20 points and Mario Pizighelli added 10 more to lead the Rockets to the win. Chad Magoulas dished off five assists while Brian Reed had three steals and two blocks. For the Hawks, Austin Jones dropped in 16 points as Dylan Berger, Kevin Dill (5 steals) and Colin Morris played well.

Thunder 48, Thrashers 34 – Doug Brodbeck scored 12 points and Sean Ross added 10 more – along with three steals – to lead the Thunder to the win. Will Arndt grabbed nine rebounds and Ben Stoller dished off three assists. For the Thrashers, Mike Greenwood scored nine points while John Wlasuk grabbed 13 rebounds. Jimmy Russo and Robbie Daigle played well.

Wildcats 43, Thrashers 32 – Max Brazo popped in 16 points and Mike Lobosco added 12 to lead the Wildcats past the Thrashers. Tommy Stewart and Matt Vavrek had solid games. For the Thrashers, the triad of Volpe, Phillips and Wlasuk combined for 18 points to power the offense as Mike Greenwood dished off six assists and Thomas DiLuoffo made four steals.

Regulators 48, Hawkeyes 24 – Ryan Dunnigan and Sam Kerr combined for 19 points as the Regulators rolled to the win. Rich Sandler had a solid game. For the ‘Eyes, John Corsi (5 assists), Matt Swigert (5 steals) and Rob Uhde (6 rebounds) played well.

Huskies 40, Eagles 38 (OT) – Curtis Droniak canned 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Thomas Capozziello added six points and eight steals to lead the Huskies to the overtime win. Mike Lord dished off seven assists and Theo Hartlett had a strong floor game. For the Eagles, Dan Sclafani poured in 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds while Will Northrup scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a losing effort. Eric Samuelson had six points and seven boards.

Huskies 47, Hornets 37 – Curtis Droniak dropped in 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Huskies stung the Hornets. Chris Haylon canned 10 points, Mike Lord dished off seven assists and Kyle Hagerman made four steals. For the Hornets, Ryan Powers popped in 13 points as Matt Dos Santos grabbed 10 boards.

Vipers 40, Hurricanes 39 – Max Nacewicz scored 16 points as the Vipers nipped the Hurricanes. Jeff Grasso had a solid floor game. For the ‘Canes, Sean Burson scored 14 as Luke Sherwood (6 assists) and Jason Marks (4 steals) played well.

Gotham Gators 46, Thunder 32 – Cody Fisher scored 13 points and Kyle McCarthy added 10 to lead the Gators to the win. Cody Williams grabbed 12 rebounds while Scott Runkle anchored the D. For the Thunder, Will Arndt had 14 points and Doug Brodbeck tossed in seven to lead the way. Ben Stoller and Sean Ross (6 rebounds) had solid floor games.

6th Grade

Gunners 38, Nighthawks 33 – Jake Feinstein and Michael Daubert popped in eight points apiece to lead the Gunners. Eric Fiore dished off four assists as Sam Langdon and Justin Germak had strong games. For the ‘Hawks, Dan Poeltl popped in 10 points while Colton Sposta dished off seven assists and Jim Pearson sparked the D.

Gunners 37, Grizzlies 27 – Michael Daubert canned 13 points and Eric Fiore added seven to lift the Gunners past the Grizzlies. Fiore and Kaleb Rowe combined for 26 rebounds as Matt Rahtelli and Cameron McCleary played well. For the Grizzlies, Alex Roche popped in 12 points while Kyle Buckley (4 assists), Andrew Volkers and Nick Madden (6 rebounds) played well.

Tar Heels 40, Knicks 23 – Pat Mullins poured in 19 points to lead the Heels to the win. Jack Champagne, Jay Destodies and Jeff Hoffman played well. For the Knicks, Joe Davis and Pat Thornberg powered the offense with five points apiece while Greg Horne, Jack Zahansky and Tom Bauer had solid floor games.

Intermediate Girls

Huskies 25, Hurricanes 21 – Kristy Papaj had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Huskies to the win. Shannon O’Gorman grabbed 12 rebounds of her own as Megan Foy had eight rebounds and four steals. Ridhi Sahani contributed four rebounds and a steal. For the ‘Canes, Kristiana Engler canned 10 points and Shannon DiLorio, Lauren Meyer and Bethany Dubois played well.

Huskies 18, Vols 18 – Kiersten Lynch scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Huskies drew even with the Vols. Tess Kneisel added 10 rebounds and four steals as Rachel Maguire contributed three rebounds and three steals. For the Vols, Lindsay Jossick popped in 10 points as Rachel DiVanno grabbed 10 boards. Shaina Evanko and Mary Beth Semosky played well.

Knicks 28, Lady Hawks 16 – Jessica Gordon scored 12 points and Elynn Gordon added six more to lead the Knicks. Emily Maher dished off seven assists as Lia Tassinari and Courtney Tenney played well. For the Hawks, Anna Northrup popped in nine points while Sara Hasselburger, Kelly O’Sullivan and Kiely Kuligowski had strong performances.

Liberty 20, Gaels 18 – Olivia Sergiovanni and Ryan Cassin played well to lead the Liberty. Julie LaPerch popped in eight points to lead the Gaels as Natalie Svanda had a solid floor game.

Mercury 22, Jaguars 4 – Catherine Neave, Jane Sclafani, Katie McManus and Ashley Maturo powered the Mercury in the win. For the Jags, Jennifer Davies, Maddie Fletcher, Emily Peters and Samantha Chanko all played well.

Knicks 31, Nighthawks 29 – Rob Schrieber led the offense as the Knicks slipped past the Nighthawks. Trevor Lopex dished off four assists and Zach Weiland added four rebounds. For the ‘Hawks, Will Swain canned eight points as Jason Ferrari, Liam Decker and Jeremy Doski (5 rebounds) played well.

Heat 32, Raptors 26 – David Mathers popped in 14 points to lift the Heat to the win. Colton Smith dished off four assists while Andrew Pfeiffer and Barry Silver played well. For the Raptors, Julian Dunn canned 10 points while Adam Israel (6 points), Timmy Moore, Eric Cascone (4 steals) and Anthony Vournazos (5 rebounds) had solid performances.

Huskies 28, Warriors 9 – Bobby Archiere scored 12 points and Peter Manfredonia pulled down eight rebounds to lift the Huskies to the win. Connor Ryan and Ryan Szalay (6 points) played well. For the Warriors, Curtis Giles and Nick Roche tossed in four points apiece as Nick Rubino made three steals and grabbed three rebounds.

Wildcats 19, Thunder 12 – David Csordas and Colin Reilly combined for 10 points while Forest Speed made seven steals. Harry Depuy played well. For the Thunder, Sawyer Conrad canned 10 points as Nick Rosario, David Corsi (6 assists), Aidan Petershack (6 steals) and Eric Street (6 rebounds) had solid floor games.

Rockets 22, Killer Bees 21 – Logan Walsh dropped in eight points and Max Rucinski made three steals to lead the Rockets to the narrow win. For the Bees, Michael Parker canned 14 points to lead the offense. Wiley Zahansky, Jared Tenenbaum, Nate Dowd (4 steals), Alex Klang (5 rebounds) put forth solid efforts.

Midget Boys

Exterminators versus Huskies – Joey Duero, Matt Campbell, Michael Liberante and Tyler LaCroce led the Exterminators while Michael Meyer, James Accousti, Joe Accousti and Taylor Koonz led the Huskies.

Blue Jays versus Green Pythons – Sam Duffy, Devon Luzietti, Nick Genovese and Matthew Kretz led the Jays as Justin Dunn, Nate Wutske, Jerl Draper and Robert Hutchins anchored the Pythons.

Timberwolves versus Chargers – Mason Melillo, Cole Rogalin, Andrew Ross and Jordan Klein led the T-Wolves as Nick Rohrbacher, Sean Wallace, Will Whitlock and Bryan Morrissey led the Chargers.

Flames versus Vipers – Ben Dieckman, Owen McInerney, James Barry and RH Clark led the Flames while Adam Robertson, Evan Eggleston, Andrew Svanda and Colin McCafferty played well for the Vipers.

Nighthawks versus Orange Crush – Michael Doyle, Matt Maturo, James Frazzetta and Matt Frazzetta played well for the ‘Hawks while Josh Houle, Tim Vander Have, Jacob Meenan and Declan Sullivan led the Crush.

Knicks versus Blizzard – Jack Moulder, Henry Primavera, Matt Meyers and Noah Burhance powered the Knicks as David Anderson, Sean Dalton, Andrew Janco and Thomas Stanczyk led the Blizzard.

Sharks versus Purple Bandits – Holden Turk, Adam Weber, John Pierce and Jason Hebner led the Sharks while Brian Gallagher, Gabe Barrett, Austin LeBlanc and Greg Harrison powered the Bandits.

Yellow Lightning versus Green Goblins – Christopher Mok, Jared Pearson, Devin Peterson and Bryce Griffin led the Lightning while Austin Kasbarian, Matt Elias, Jack Procaccini and Scott Bauer played well for the Goblins.

Midget Girls

Panthers versus Tigers – Lucy Helgren, Sarah Bender, Bridget Walsh and Caitlyn Linden led the Panthers as Emma Horne, Madelaine Strokis, Erin Tressler and Rachel Williams led the Tigers.

Blue Swish versus Fighting Irish – Olivia Holman, Alana Murray, Isabel Pryor and Lindsay Hoyt led the Swish while Madison Pirone, Maren Brady, Quinn Knep and Emily Montoya powered the Irish.

Purple Penguins versus Yellow Peeps – Julianna Patelli, Megan Goyda, Jillian Pieretti and Cayla Zuccarelo powered the Penguins as Katie Riley, Christina Moore, Meghan Doyle and Jessica Maturo had solid performances for the Peeps.

Huskies versus Eagles – Haley Ryan, Jordan Svanda and Amanda Donovan led the Huskies as Michaela Jackman, Victoria Kroha, Mallory LoBuglio and Courtney Demeglio played well for the Eagles.
