The boys’ basketball team might have been held to its lowest point total of the season, but it still managed to tough out a 44-38 win against Whisconier last week

Captains Matt Datin and Josh Engler combined for 34 of the team’s 44 markers with Engler canning 19 and Datin adding 15. Ishan Tatake tossed in six and Sean Maher added four while Rory Noonan and Sean Davenport had solid defensive efforts.

Rob Frangione played well off the bench as the Lions improved to 9-1.

After a tough 40-25 loss to Memorial, the girls’ basketball team was all set to respond with a win over Whisconier last week.

And maybe it was the eighth-grade pep rally that did it, helping the Lady Lions put together a first half that would have been good enough to beat any team they have faced this year. Unfortunately, Whisconier rallied in the second half for a 42-31 win.

Maggie Donahue canned 13 points and was strong off the glass while Alex Grant popped in six points. Jenna Bonaccorso had two points with a solid defensive effort as Natalie Dunn, Christie Iorfino and Kelly O’Connor played well.

In the loss to Memorial, the Lady Lions continued to improve their game in anticipation of the season-ending tournament.

The team was led by the defensive efforts of Dunn and Bonaccorso as each had several rebounds and blocked shots.  Grant and Donahue also stepped it up on the defensive side as Iorfino played a great game in several positions. Marilyn LaCroce led the offensive effort with seven points.
