Moving Violations
Police report that on the morning of January 25, they spotted motorist Jeremy Hirsch, 28, of New Milford driving a vehicle faster than the posted speed limit on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook, so they stopped Hirsch to investigate.
Police charged Hirsch with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.
After processing, police released Hirsch on $100 bail for a February 28 court appearance.
Rolex Replica
On January 22, a replica of a Rolex-brand wristwatch was found at the townâs waster transfer station at 199-A South Main Street, police report.
Although the replica watch is in working order, it has a broken wristband. Police are holding the item for safekeeping.
The owner may claim the watch by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Van Rollover
About 12:04 am January 26, police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Toddy Hill Road, near that streetâs intersection with Quarry Ridge Road.
Police said that on arriving, they found that a southbound 2002 Freightliner C2500-SHC van had rolled over onto its driverâs side.
The van, which is owned by Sippin Energy Products of Monroe, was being driven by Glenn Greene, 36, of Monroe when the accident occurred, police said.
Sandy Hook firefighters extricated Greene from the flipped van, after which ambulance volunteers transported him to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
The accident is under investigation.
DUI Charge
At about 12:50 am on January 29, while on patrol, police said they spotted motorist Scott Hamilton, 43, of Monroe traveling southward in the northbound lane of South Main Street, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police charged Hamilton with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
After processing, Hamilton posted $60 bail and was released from custody for a February 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.
Three Vehicles
A three-vehicle accident involving two minivans and a sport-utility vehicle occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way about 7:15 am January 24.
Police said that motorist Bryan Demenna, 20, of 3 Farmery Lane, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee westward on Berkshire Road, stopped for a red traffic signal, after which westbound motorist Louise Howell, 52, of 48 High Rock Road, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan, stopped behind the Jeep.
Westbound motorist Jason Carey, 25, of 9 Harvest Common Road, who was driving a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, pushing the Dodge into the rear end of the Jeep, police said.
There were no injuries. Carey received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Twist Hill Lane
About 5 am January 27, motorist Daniel Palermo, 17, of 45 Cedar Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Plymouth Neon westward on Twist Hill Road in dry conditions, failed to negotiate a left curve in the road and then struck some curbing and a utility pole, police said.
Palermo contacted his parents, who then informed police of the accident, police said.
Neither Palermo, nor an 18-year-old passenger, were injured, according to police. Police said they issued Palermo an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn and for violation of an hours-of-operation restriction on his driverâs license.
Pontiac Vs Deer
About 7 am January 23, motorist Candace Keene, 35, of Danbury was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix coupe eastward near 98 Berkshire Road, when a deer entered the street, police said. The Pontiac and the deer collided. Keene was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Narragansett Trail
About 5 pm January 25, motorist Jeffrey Gargiulo, 16, of 47 Farview Drive, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible northward near 23 Narragansett Trail, while negotiating a curve in the road, lost control of the auto, went into a skid and then struck a utility pole, police said.
Gargiulo reported no injuries, but was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked due to his age, police said. Gargiulo received an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
Shepaug Road
About 9 pm January 26, motorist Braeden Conlan, 17, of Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Ford station wagon southward near 11 Shepaug Road, skidded off the road and struck some trees, police said. Conlan was carrying three male teenage passengers, police said. There were no injuries.
Conlan received an infraction ticket for failure to keep to the right on a curve.
Evading Responsibility
Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, a male teenager came to the police station on the night of January 26 and was charged with evading responsibility in connection with an accident that occurred last November 24 on Lakeview Terrace.
In that late night accident at the intersection of Lakeview Terrace and Lakeview Terrace Extension, the 17-year-old boy was driving a 1986 Oldsmobile sedan southward, when he lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road and collided with a utility pole. The boy was not injured.
A passing motorist noticed the accident after it had occurred and contacted police. The boy had left the scene of the crash before police arrived to investigate.
The youth posted $50 bail on January 26 and was released for a February 2 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Because the youth was 17 years old when the accident occurred, he is considered a âyouthful offenderâ under state law and his identity is shielded from public disclosure.
NHS Graffiti
Police have arrested two youths each on a charge of third-degree criminal mischief in connection with an incident last November in which they allegedly spray-painted graffiti on a section of Newtown High School.
Police said they arrested each of the youths on warrants on the night of January 28. Third-degree criminal mischief involves less than $250 of property damage.
Police released each of the two youths on written promises to appear February 12 in Danbury Juvenile Court. Because both youths are under age 16, their identities are shielded by state law.
Multiple Charges
Following a domestic dispute and an ensuing search, police arrested a Derby man on five charges early on the morning of January 27.
Police said they received a call at about 12:04 am reporting a domestic violence incident at a Crown View Drive residence in Sandy Hook to which they responded.
Police said that Mark Plavecki, 23, of Derby had fled the residence on foot before they arrived, after which they called in a state police canine unit to help search for Plavecki. Plavecki was later located a âconsiderable distanceâ away from the home, police said.
Police arrested Plavecki on charges of third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, interfering with police, and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police held Plavecki on $10,000 bail for a January 29 court arraignment. Following that arraignment, Plavecki was being held this week on $25,000 bail at the Bridgeport Correctional Center.
Warrant
Police report they executed an arrest warrant on January 30 against Alicia Vidnansky, 47, of Southbury in connection with a 2006 incident.
Police said they charged Vidnansky with second-degree failure to appear in court and with driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
After posting $1,000 bail, Vidnansky was released from custody for a February 14 court appearance, police said.
Disorderly Conduct
Police report that on January 26, they arrested a youth under age 16 on a charge of disorderly conduct. The school resource officer at Newtown High School made the arrest. Details were not available. Police released the youth on a written promise to appear February 26 in Danbury Juvenile Court.
Because the person arrested is under age 18, their identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
