Linda Manganaro Named President Of NHE Board
Linda Manganaro has been elected the new president of Newtown Housing for the Elderly, the board that oversees the operation of Nunnawauk Meadows. The housing development is in it 31st year of operation and now consists of 134 apartments with 148 tenants. It is a private elderly citizen housing development owned and operated by Newtown Housing for the Elderly (NHE).
In addition to Ms Manganaro, the new slate of officers includes Eugene Luchansky, vice president; Brian Amey, treasurer; Bernard Curran, secretary; and directors Joseph Borst, Jean Honan, Carol Mattegat, and John OâByrne.
Ms Manganaro is replacing John OâByrne, who served a three-year term as president of the board during which included the construction of 14 new apartments, three new officers, expansion of the community room, and the addition of a new, large laundry room. Nunnawauk Meadows sits on 30 acres.
The day-to-day finances, operations and upkeep are handled by Executive Director Frank DeLucia and Administrator Nancy Scott, assisted by Arlene Neiman, while a four-person maintenance department is directed by Art Monsanto.
One of NHEâs main goals this year is to upgrade the communityâs alarm system and replace the kitchen cabinets in 80 of the oldest units.
The 14 new apartments were built around the Community Center to allow those with physical problems to take part in the many activities in the center. Also included during the recent construction was a library, doctorâs consulting room, arts and craft room, and a hair salon. A hot meal is offered every day to anyone who wishes to sign up to attend and many parties and other activities are conducted every day in the large community room.
