It was quite a performance for the Newtown High School and Newtown Youth Cheer programs at the Fairfield Ludlowe Cheer Open on January 25. In fact, it was a clean sweep for the Nighthawks.

D10 earned first place in the Youth Rec Division and won the Most Spirited title. D14 won first in the Middle School Division plus won the Longest Extension Contest.

While the future of high school cheerleading looks bright, so too does the current lineup. The NHS squad took first in the Varsity Advanced Division, captured the Best Pyramid title, and earned the distinction as Grand Champs of the day with a score 88.35.

Newtown High will look to keep the championships coming when the Nighthawks host the South-West Conference Cheerleading Championships Friday, January 31, beginning at 7 pm.
