NHS Swimmers, Coming Off A Win Over Bethel, Set For Rebels
For the second week in a row, Newtown High School's boys' swimming and diving team had its Tuesday meet postponed because of weather. The Nighthawks are scheduled to visit the New Fairfield Rebels on Wednesday, February 1, beginning at 5 pm because of Tuesday's snowfall resulting in early dismissal from schools.
The Hawks are coming off a 93-69 victory over visiting Bethel on January 25, in a meet postponed because of weather the day before.
The 200 yard medley relay team of Tommy Horan, Ian Peng, Mason Suba, and Xavier Williams was first in a time of 1:48.49. The relay of Michael Yu, Colby Delia, Dawson Stout, and Ben Marini placed second in 1:55.65.
Peter Fagerholm won the 200 freestyle race in a time of 1:54.12, and David Lawrence was second in 1:58.47. Stout took first in the 200 individual medley, making his final touch in 2:02.33.
Horan and Suba gave the Nighthawks a one-two finish in the 50 free, clocking in at 22.69 and 24.46.
Ian Humber won the diving competition with a score of 216.45.
Stout was first in the 100 butterfly race, with a time of 54.97, and Suba was second in a time of 57.61.
In the 100 free, Williams was first in a time of 54.13, and Rick Irving had the second-fastest time, making his final touch in 55.07.
Fagerholm was Newtown's fastest swimmer in the 500, and placed second overall, with a time of 5:06.48.
In the 200 free relay event, Stout, Michael Annesley, Fagerholm, and Williams had the best time, finishing in 1:40.08.
Horan captured first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.57, and Yu had the next-fastest finish, clocking in at 1:05.28. Peng was first in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:10.17, and Delia had the second-best time, making his last touch in 1:13.47.
The 400 free relay contingent of Suba, Irving, Fagerholm, and Horan finished first in 3:38.40. The 400 relay of Lawrence, Jack Wojtowicz, Yu, and Annesley was second-fastest in 3:59.31.
