Closings, Cancellations And Postponements
With snow falling across the region, and the National Weather Service saying the precipitation to continue until well past sunset, local boards, commissions, and groups are finding the need to change their plans due to the weather. A Winter Weather Advisory has been put into effect until midnight Wednesday. A few minor accidents have been reported since mid-Tuesday morning, including a three-vehicle incident on Poverty Hollow Road and a one-vehicle accident on Swamp Road.

Newtown schools have already dismissed students and facultyÃÂ for the day. Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr, had announced Tuesday morning that the early dismissal would also result in the cancellation of all afternoon and evening student activities.
C.H. Booth Library closed at noon, also due to the weather.
A special meeting for the Public Building & Site Committee scheduled for 7 pm Tuesday has been cancelled. Tuesday's Board of Education meeting has been postponed. The BOE will now convene at 7:30 Wednesday, February 1, in the Council Chamber at Newtown Municipal Center.
EverWonder Children's Museum has closed for the day.
NYA Sports & Fitness Center has cancelled all evening group fitness classes. As of 3:20 pm, however, the fitness center at 4 Primrose Street was still going to be kept open until 9 pm.
