Cecilia Scales
SOUTHBURY — Cecilia Scales, 94, passed away peacefully on January 21 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late E. John Scales for 55 years.
Cecilia was born on July 28, 1929, in Emly, Tipperary County, Ireland, to the late Thomas Loftus and Cecilia Bennett. Cecilia worked as an RN in Ireland and in the United States. She and her husband had a family medical practice in Alberta, Canada.
They moved to Newtown, where John began his tenure as superintendent at Fairfield Hills Hospital.
Upon retiring from there in 1990, Cecilia and John moved to Heritage Crest in Southbury. She went on to earn her degree in social work from Western Connecticut State University, and worked for Boehringer Ingleheim for ten years until her retirement.
Cecilia was a devoted wife and mother. Her approach was tough, but fair, and her family was everything to her. She enjoyed the game of golf, and never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury for many years.
Cecilia is survived by her two sons, Geoffrey Scales, Simon Scales and his wife Kathey; her grandchildren, Patrick and his wife Jessica Scales, and Michael Scales; and her great-grandchildren Elijah and Emery. She also leaves several family members in Ireland and England.
A special thanks to Cecilia’s aide, Davlyn, who provided Cecilia with great care, love and friendship during the last few years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southbury on Tuesday, January 30. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Southbury, in the spring.
