Too Fast For Conditions

Newtown Police report Nerlande Daniel, 37, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Nissan Rogue, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 4:38 pm December 11. Joseph Devellis, 27, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Hyundai Genesis, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road. Police say Daniel passed a stopped vehicle in the northbound lane and her vehicle began to slide in the snow covered roadway. Daniel was unable to regain control before the left front section of her vehicle made contact with the left front section of Devellis’ vehicle.

Daniel declined medical treatment. Neither vehicle was towed.

Daniel was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hyundai Hits Infiniti

Newtown Police report Melissa Ashley, 26, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Hyundai Accent, was traveling eastbound on Scudder Road at 8:20 am January 12. Alisa Williams, 49, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Infiniti QX80, was traveling westbound on Scudder Road. Ashley crossed the center line, striking Williams’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Ashley was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Following Too Closely

Newtown Police report Sylvia Woolfolk-Martin, 62, of Stratford, operating a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 4:58 pm January 12 traveling behind a 2020 Ford Transit operated by Michael Krochta, 43, of Brookfield. Krochta came to a stop at the traffic light at the intersection of Buttonshop Road. Woolfolk-Martin told police she was looking down at the radio and when she looked up, she attempted to stop, but struck Krochta’s vehicle from behind.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Woolfolk-Martin was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Failure To Appear Arrest

Newtown Police report John Polmon, 42, of Hartford, was arrested at 4:31 pm January 18 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. He was released on a $25,000 bond with a court date of February 15 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Heed Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Sana Sarr, 17, of Monroe, operating a 2017 Toyota RAV4, was traveling eastbound on Little Brook Lane at 3:54 pm January 19. Kelli Godejohn, 34, of Monroe, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road and started to slow when she saw a northbound school bus waiting to make the left turn onto Little Brook Lane. Police say Sarr came to a stop at the stop sign with the intersection of Botsford Hill Road and then started to make a right turn onto Botsford Hill Road when the right front section of Godejohn’s vehicle struck the left rear section of her vehicle.

Sarr’s vehicle was towed. No injuries were reported.

Sarr was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Hit Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Mary Leanza-Sullivan, 69, of Newtown, operating a 2009 Audi A4, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 7:52 pm January 19. Leanza-Sullivan told police that after passing the intersection with Key Rock Road, she was unable to see due to the dark and rainy conditions and collided with a utility pole along the southbound shoulder of the roadway.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

Leanza-Sullivan was issued an infraction for failure to maintain lane, along with operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Ary Correia, 51, of Danbury, operating a 2022 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Hattertown Road approaching Key Rock Road at 8:35 am January 20. Marianne Crew, 76, of Redding, operating a 2021 Volvo XC60, was stopped for a stop sign in the northbound travel lane of Poverty Hollow Road at Hattertown Road. Police say Correia came to a stop at the intersection. Crew entered the intersection and then Correia drove into the intersection striking the right rear wheel of Crew’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Crew’s vehicle was towed.

Correia was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Arrested For Failure To Appear

Newtown Police report that at 3:57 pm January 23, Michael Gillece, 36, of New Milford, turned himself in at the Newtown Police Department headquarters on a warrant. He was arrested for first-degree failure to appear. He was released on a $20,000 bond with a court date of February 6.
