Business Buzz: Save Your Scissors

Newtown native Ashley Hubbard and staff are ready to not only color your hair, but color your world at Save Your Scissors, an upscale salon in Sandy Hook Center, with appeal to the young and the young at heart.

Sassy bursts of color, oversized black and white tiles that form a checkerboard pattern on the floor, and a wall in the waiting room painted by a Danbury graffiti artist let you know that Save Your Scissors Salon, which opened September 30 at 5 Riverside Road, is not your ordinary salon.

A wall of brightly colored hair products is accented with numerous Star Wars paraphernalia and figurines, a secret vice of the salon owner and stylist. More Star Wars décor is found in the waiting room, which is as kid friendly as it is welcoming to adult clients.

“I grew up in Newtown, so coming back here was huge for me,” said Ms Hubbard. The salon was open at a Stony Hill Road location for two years, prior to the move this past fall.

“In this very spot, when I was growing up, there was a salon called The Natural Look. My entire family went there. I remember Sharon cutting my hair, and looking in the mirror and being amazed at how magical everything she was doing was,” Ms Hubbard said. So when the Ricci’s Academy graduate discovered that the Riverside Road space was available, she did not think twice about relocating her business.

“I’ve come full circle,” she said.

Save Your Scissors is a full service salon, offering cuts, color, facial waxing, barbering, straight razor shaves, and highly personalized service. Attention to detail is important to Ms Hubbard and staff. Each cut and color is specific to the client, taking into consideration lifestyle, personality, and hair type, she said.

The clientele — men, women, and children — are a diverse group. Save Your Scissors can do a traditional bob or classic barbering, but it is also the place to go for the edgy styles that other salons may not be able to master, said Ms Hubbard.

The staff is also available to do makeup and hair for weddings, photo shoots, and special events.

“I’ve created a brand that people hold in high regard,” said Ms Hubbard, “knowing they can depend on a certain quality and results.”

Since opening, the salon has drawn customers from all across the state and region, she said, and local residents have been thrilled to find her doing business in Sandy Hook Center.

“I can’t think of a better place to have a business,” Ms Hubbard said.

Save Your Scissors, located on the second floor at 5 Riverside Road, is open 11 am to 7 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 10 am to 5 pm Friday; and 10 am to 4 pm Saturday.
