Resident Elected To State CWU Board
New officers were elected on January 21 at the Church Women United of Connecticut state board meeting in Meriden, and Newtown resident Darlene Jackson was elected as co-vice chairman for the state level.
Term for all officers at the state level is three years.
The primary goal of the co-vice presidents is to assist the president, and also to plan the state assemblies. The next one is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at Newtown Congregational Church. âA Closer Walk with Theeâ is the theme for the event.
There will be a keynote speaker (TBA), an appearance of the Candlewood Childrenâs Choir, breakout sessions, and a luncheon to be served in the churchâs Great Room.
Mrs Jackson is also the president of the local chapter of Church Women United. Anyone interested in information about CWU-Newtown is welcome to call Mrs Jackson, 426-5192, or contact the key woman from their church.
Participating Newtown churches and their respective key women are Newtown Congregational, Barbara Bigham; Newtown United Methodist, Barbara Gates; St Johnâs Episcopal, Doris Schoonmaker; St Rose of Lima, Jean Conover; and Trinity Episcopal, Norma Gray.
