NUMC Men Discuss Going Green
The Newtown United Methodist Church Menâs Group and guest First Selectman Joe Borst braved the cold weather last Saturday, January 24, for a breakfast meeting at the church. The group enjoyed an informative talk about GMâs Hydrogen Fuel Cell program, presented by Steve Marlin, a driver relationship manager for GM, and a church member who brought one of GMâs test vehicles to the meeting.
The GM Chevrolet Equinox, equipped with a fourth generation fuel cell, is part of the worldâs largest market test fleet, called Project Driveway. The car manufacturer has more than 100 of these vehicles in US cities, including New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. The car performs with zero emissions and burns no petroleum.
The program has been running for roughly a year, with 500,000-plus miles logged to date.
Mr Marlin offered a quick course in the environmental benefits of a âgreen vehicleâ that aids Americaâs energy independence, a key GM initiative.
The Menâs Group will go green at another breakfast talk at the church on February 21, when Newtownâs Clean Energy Task Force Chairman Dan Holmes will discuss plans for Newtown.
