Middle School Basketball Highlights

Newtown 67, Bethel 42: The eighth grade boys improved to 6-0 and remained undefeated with a 67-42 win against Bethel. The team was led in scoring by Sean Elliott with 12 points and Mike Daubert with 10 points. Justin Devellis drove to the basket for 9 points off the bench and Eric Fiore scored 8 points before fouling out. Gavin Scallon spread the ball around for 10 assists and added 7 points. Stephen Conway played excellent perimeter defense and Mike Scharfenberg ripped down rebounds. Chris Devaney and Patrick Riccardi also had strong games on defense.

Newtown 46, Bethel 27: The seventh grade boys held Bethel to just 3 points in the final quarter to win Mr. Recklets’ coaching debut. The boys were led in scoring by Mike Davis with 12 points and Nick CagGenello with 10. It was a physical game from the start and the aggressive play of Matt Hoyt, Jonah Muniz and Matt Mossbarger showed Bethel that they would not be backing down. Logan Puleri and Drew Tarentino banged inside for hard-fought rebounds.
