Ida Edith Candida
Ida Edith Candida of Sandy Hook passed away January 24 with family by her side.
She was born to the late Louis Deluca and Vincentina Deluca, in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 19, 1929. She graduated from high school in Brooklyn. She worked for JC Penny Executive Office in Manhattan.
She married the late Mario Candida on July 4, 1953, in Brooklyn, where they lived until they moved to Staten Island in 1964. In 2003, she moved to Sandy Hook. She was a member of St Rose of Lima Parish.
Ida is survived by her daughter Diana Bollas and son-in-law George Bollas, as well as several nieces Madeline Oddo of Brooklyn, Denise Deluca of Bensalem, Penn., and nephews Clifford Candida, Christopher Candida, and niece Carla Candida.
She was an avid bocce player and Scrabble player. She liked to cook, sew, crochet, and knit. While living in Staten Island she was also a Parent Teacher President and a Girl Scout leader. She was also active in the Democratic Party and worked for the Board Elections in New York City.
Calling hours will be Wednesday January 31, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, from 2 to 4 pm. Donations in her memory can be made to Catholic Charities (catholiccharitiesusa.org/).
