Police Reports, January 15-24, 2015
Evading Responsibility
Police report that while on patrol in Dodgingtown about 2:35 am on January 20, they spotted a utility pole near 3 Hattertown Road that had been struck by a vehicle and had fallen down, bringing down with it some utility lines.
The evidence at the scene indicated that a Ford F-250 pickup truck from the model years 2005, 2006, or 2007 had been traveling northward on Hattertown Road and then struck a utility pole along the southbound road shoulder, after which its driver continued traveling northward toward Bethel. The truck was not located.
Based on evidence at the scene, the truck would have moderate crash damage to its left-front quadrant and would be missing its left headlamp assembly, police said.
Volunteer firefighters responded to the incident. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Bennetts Bridge Road
Police report that at about 11:37 am on January 19, motorist JD Goldin, 72, of 19 Russett Road was driving a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560 sedan westward on Bennetts Bridge Road, when the auto struck a utility pole alongside the street.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Goldin a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Fire Truck
At about 8:25 am on January 18, Jason Culbreth, 39, of Brookfield was driving a 1994 Spartan fire truck, which is owned by the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, on an emergency call when it was involved in an accident, police said.
Police said Culbreth was making a right turn out from the fire house driveway at 34 Hawleyville Road in order to go northward on Hawleyville Road, when the vehicle slid on the icy roadway and went off the southbound road shoulder, striking some guardcabling.
There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Berkshire Road
Police report that at about 3:20 pm on January 20, motorist Edward Valko, 52, of Derby, who was driving a 2104 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV westward on Berkshire Road, stopped the vehicle and was then struck from behind by motorist William Vitale, 38, of New Milford, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.
There were no injuries. Vitale received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Botsford Accident
At about 3 pm on January 21, motorist Richard Bretton, 54, of 12 Blue Spruce Drive, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, slowed in preparing to make a left turn onto Bears Hill Road, but was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Sue Adams, 56, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Rogue SUV, according to police.
There were no injuries. Adams received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Serious Charges
Police report they arrested Joseph Aragi, 26, of Brookfield on a warrant on the night of January 23, charging him with first-degree stalking, first-degree threatening, first-degree harassment, and with violation of a protective order.
The charges stem from incidents involving Aragi and a former friend, police said. There were no injuries, police said.
Police held Aragi on $50,000 bail for arraignment on the charges on January 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
Larceny
Police said they responded on the evening of January 23 to a report concerning an alleged theft at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Sarah Goodspeed, 55, of 46 Queen Street with sixth-degree larceny.
Goodspeed was released on $500 bail for a February 3 court appearance, police said.
Easton Man
After learning that Newtown police held warrants against him in connection with incidents that occurred in August 2013, Christopher Barocsi, 31, of Easton turned himself over to Monroe police, who then turned him over to Newtown police on January 23.
Newtown police charged Barocsi with two counts of sixth-degree larceny. Barocsi was released on $1,500 bail for a February 3 court appearance, police said.
Five Charges
At about 8:30 am on January 23, police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident having occurred on private property on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Sugarloaf Road, police said.
After investigating, police charged Robert Lee Harris III, 43, of Monroe, who had been driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, with making a restricted turn, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving under suspension.
Harris was released on a written promise to appear in court on February 5.
DUI Incident
Police said they received a report concerning an erratic driver at about 8 pm on January 24 and then went to the specified area to investigate.
Police said that on arriving, they found that the motorist in question had been involved in an accident near 10 Mt Pleasant Road.
Motorist Sara Trout, 28, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Yaris auto, had driven across the road’s center line and then entered the driveway at 10 Mt Pleasant Road, striking a curbside mailbox and several trees, police said. Trout received minor injuries, police said.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Trout with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Trout was released on $500 nonsurety bail for a February 10 court appearance, police said.
Vehicular Violation
Police report that while on patrol about 12:03 pm on January 24, they stopped motorist Steven Comette, 48, of West Haven to investigate. Police said they then charged Comette with driving under suspension.
Truck Vs SUV
Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Edmond Road about 8:30 am on January 15.
The crash involved trucker Gilbert Fultz, 70, of Beavertown, Penn., who was driving a 2014 tractor-trailer truck, and motorist Asime Zhaku, 29, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2013 Honda CR-V SUV. Fultz received a written warning for making an improper turn, police said.
Hawleyville Collision
Motorist Liliana Doyon, 29, of 24 Parmalee Hill Road, was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback station wagon northward on Currituck Road and was approaching its intersection with Obtuse Road and Hawleyville Road about 8:50 am on January 24, when due to snow-covered pavement she was unable to stop at that intersection, police said.
The vehicle slid into the intersection and struck a stop sign, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Doyon for failure to obey a stop sign and for traveling too fast for conditions.
SUV Accident
Motorist Kristopher Bonsignore, 20, of 22 Park Lane was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV eastward near 83 Sugar Street about 5 pm on January 20, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision. Bonsignore was not injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Lexus Damaged
Motorist Jessica Guedelha, 28, of Bridgeport was driving a 2015 Lexus IS-350 sedan southward near 139 Poverty Hollow Road about 5:30 pm on January 15, when the vehicle struck a pothole in the road, damaging a tire and a wheel, police report. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Found Item
Police report that they are seeking to locate Wayne S. Wilson, who formerly lived at 70 Hiram Hill Road in Monroe, regarding some lost personal property which was found on the evening of January 23 in the parking lot of the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.
