Sara Leah (Lillian) “Lily” Glickman, 85, of Florida, died January 22.  She was born in 1928, and educated in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.

She married her high school sweetheart, Dr Maurice Glickman, after he returned from North Africa, where he served in the RCAF.  They moved from Canada to Newtown, where Dr Glickman, who passed away in 1998, worked as a psychiatrist and physician. The Glickmans raised their family in Newtown.

Mrs Glickman trained as a registered nurse and practiced in Glace Bay, Montréal, Canada, as well as at the Polyclinic Hospital and the Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. Known for her wit and kindness, she won first prize for best bedside nursing.

During her married life, Mrs Glickman worked as a volunteer nurse and volunteered for a variety of agencies such as Newtown Meals On Wheels, the Democratic Party, and FISH. She was very athletic and skied, skated, played tennis, and golf.  She was an exceptional bowler and won many trophies both in Connecticut and Florida.

Three sons, Ian Glickman of Philadelphia, Jay Chester Glickman of Bradenton, Fla., and Martin Ernest Glickman of Marlboro, Mass.; two daughters-in-law, Charlene and Mel; three grandchildren; and five siblings to whom she was very close, Shirley Weingarten, Marlene Neumann, Inez Schwartz, and Raymond Goldman of Canada, and Abe Goldman of Florida survive Mrs Glickman.

She greatly enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren. All her friends and relatives will sorely miss her.

A private memorial service took place in Sarasota, Fla.

Memorial donations can be made to the Robinson Nature Preserve, 1709 99th Street NW, Bradenton FL 34209, or Hospice at tidewell.org.
