Keating Farms
Police said they received a report on the presence of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Keating Farms Avenue at Fairfield Hills about 11:35 pm on January 16, so they went to the area to investigate.
After the vehicle was located, two people were found nearby, police said. The incident is under investigation, according to police.
Sugar Street Deer
Motorist Terence Trow, 49, of Pinnacle Drive was driving a 2005 Honda westward on Sugar Street (Route 302), near its intersection with Head Oâ Meadow Road, at about 11 pm January 16, when a deer ran across the street, striking the left side of the Honda, police report. Trow was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Currituck Road
Motorist Vito LaFrance, 63, of Oxford was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV northward near 26 Currituck Road about 8 am January 20, when a dog ran out from a driveway there in front of the approaching vehicle, police said.
The Ford struck the dog, killing the animal, police said. LaFrance was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Pickup Truck
About 10:30 pm on January 15, motorist Daniel McNamara, 22, of Easton, who was driving a 1996 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward near 41 Swamp Road, was not paying attention to his driving and drove off the pavement, striking a utility pole, police report.
McNamara was not injured. Police verbally warned McNamara for making a restricted turn.
Gas Station
Police report a collision between a flatbed tractor-trailer truck and an auto at the Newtown Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road on January 14.
Trucker Alex Grandos Blanco, 40, of Arlington, Va., was attempting to back the truck into the gas station, as motorist Stacey Maddox, 37, of East Setauket, N.Y., who was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima, was attempting the exit the gas station, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Edmond Road
Police report that about 4:25 pm on January 20, they spotted motorist Antonio Lombardo, 27, of Southbury driving a vehicle on Edmond Road that had no front marker plate, so they stopped it to investigate.
Police charged Lombardo with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving with a suspended license. After processing, police released Lombardo on a written promise to appear on February 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
Mt Pleasant DUI
Police report that they stopped motorist Karen Blakely, 21, of Waterbury near 184 Mt Pleasant Road because the westbound vehicle she was driving had crossed the roadâs centerlines at about 1:07 am on January 22.
After investigating, police charged Blakely with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
After arrest processing, police released Blakely on $100 bail for a February 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Four Charges
At about 4:44 pm on January 23, police stopped motorist William Bruno, 40, of 1 Borough Lane for not having a front marker plate on the vehicle that he was driving on Elm Drive near Hawley Road.
After investigating, police charged Bruno with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
After he posted $100 bail, police released Bruno for a February 9 court appearance.
Vandalism
About 9 am on January 23, police received a report of criminal mischief involving vandalism to a curbside residential mailbox that had occurred on Parmalee Hill Road, near its intersection with Butterfield Road.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact investigating Officer Todd Dingee at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Poverty Hollow DUI
Motorist Dan Brenkman, 51, of Southbury was driving a commercial 2004 GMC Savana van on Poverty Hollow Road about 2:13 pm January 22, when the van went off the road, entered a ditch and then struck a tree near Flat Swamp Road, police said.
Brenkman was not injured. Following an investigation, police charged Brenkman with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.
Police released Brenkman on $100 bail for a February 5 court appearance.
Collision
About 9:43 am on January 23, motorist William Snyder, 57, of 105 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 2007 Toyota Prius sedan westward near 47 Church Hill Road, police said.
At that time, a westbound noncontact vehicle, which was traveling ahead of the Prius, made a sudden turn to the right without first signaling, police said.
The Toyota was able to avoid colliding with that noncontact vehicle, but a westbound 2007 Volkswagen Touareg SUV driven by Jeffrey Barto, 40, of 20 Bradley Lane, which was traveling behind the Toyota, drove into the rear end of the Toyota, police said.
Snyder was checked for pain at the scene by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but was not transported, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. Barto received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Hazardous Conditions
Police report that Matt Smarella, 21, of 52 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck northward near 67 Glen Road about 6:45 pm January 17 in snowy/slushy road conditions when the truck slid on the pavement, crossed into the southbound lane and struck some guardrailing.
The truck then crossed back into the northbound lane and struck some rock ledge, police said. Smarella was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Exit 9 Accident
State police report a two-vehicle accident at the end of the Exit 9 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 1:30 pm January 22.
Motorist Brian Fredlund, 24, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler SUV, was stopped behind motorist David Booth, 38, of Strattanville, Penn., who was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan, state police said.
The Jeep then struck the rear end of the Dodge, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Honda Off Road
Motorist Adam Celio, 26, of Snellville, Georgia, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord on westbound Interstate 84âs Exit 11 on-ramp at about 8:54 am January 20, lost control of the auto and struck an embankment and some brush alongside the right road shoulder, state police said.
Celio was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.
Partridge Lane
Motorist Doug Harrison, 41, of 35 Taunton Hill Road was driving a 2006 Volvo S-60 sedan northward on the dead-end Partridge Lane about 6:30 pm January 20, when he drove beyond the end of the street, struck some guardrailing, went down an embankment and then hit a tree, police said.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps staff members transported Harrison to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police said they gave Harrison a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
Intersection Crash
At about 2:30 pm on January 11, motorist Kristopher Crockett, 22, of 7 White Oak Farm Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda Accord sedan, stopped on eastbound Sugar Street in the left-turn-only lane and was waiting to turn left onto northbound Main Street, police said.
At that time. motorist Christina Hartlett, 18, of 5 Webster Place, who was driving a 2008 Saturn Aura sedan, was traveling eastward on Sugar Street, police said.
The Saturn then passed the Honda on the left, striking the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hartlett a written warning for passing in a no-passing zone.
Warrant
Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Kenton Lord, 18, of 35 Cherry Street went to the police station on the night of January 26 and was charged with third-degree criminal mischief.
Police said the arrest stems from a complaint they received on November 26 concerning Lord allegedly having damaged a window at the Newtown Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road.
After processing, police released Lord on $100 bail for a February 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Moving Violations
At about 5:30 pm on January 26, police stopped motorist Artur Godlewski, 25, of Bethel near 19 Main Street to investigate.
Police said they charged Godlewski with failure to display a marker plate and with driving with a suspended license.
After he posted $100 bail, police released Godlewski for a February 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Masonicare
Police report that sometime between 7:35 pm on January 21 and 10 am on January 22, someone intentionally damaged an unspecified motor vehicle which was parked in the parking lot at Masonicare at Newtown at 139 Toddy Hill Road. The facility formerly was known as Ashlar at Newtown.
