Downed Tree Takes A Bite Out Of Deli Businesses
Lunchtime customers and employees at Newtown Deli & Catering and Butcherâs Best Market were more than a little startled when an enormous pine tree growing near the building crashed through the roof of the business during the heavy rain and winds of Monday, January 25.
âIt sounded like an explosion, and shook the whole building,â said Butcherâs Best Market owner Steve Ford. âNobody knew what it was at first.â
Butcherâs Best Market is located inside of the Newtown Deli & Catering at 79 South Main Street. Both businesses were closed Monday afternoon as Al Potter and his crew from Newtown Arbor Services began clearing the tree off of the building. âAl was here the minute we called,â said Mr Ford.
Despite gaps in the roof and ten-gallon containers placed strategically throughout the store to catch dripping water, Mr Ford was upbeat. âThe good thing is, we didnât lose power, and the tree didnât hit the gas lines on the roof or the air conditioning unit. We just have some roof damage.â
Both businesses were able to open for business as usual on Tuesday morning.
