Crock-Pot Cooking Class, Love & Knishes Offered

SOUTHBURY — A free program on crock-pot cooking is being given on Wednesday, February 3, at 2 pm, at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North. Judy Prager, nutritionist and registered dietician at the Senior Nutrition Program at New Opportunities, will be the speaker. Participants will learn about the cost benefits, the nutritional benefits, and the ease of using a crock-pot, plus taste a great dish and get some new recipes. Everyone participating will be entered into a raffle to win a new crock-pot.

Due to limited seating, registration is required for this program.

The February Love & Knishes Lunch Program is open to all area adults age 60 and above featuring healthful hot lunches served at noon and followed by entertainment at 1 pm.

On February 2, diners will enjoy a show on piano and drums as brothers Mark and Kevin Templeton of Woodbury play a mixture of tunes.

On February 9 Dr. Jonathan Hammond shares heartening news during a “Dialogue with the Docs” talk following lunch focusing on heart surgery, and when angioplasty is not enough or not appropriate.

On February 16, flutist and pianist Jenny Li leads the Friends Youth Ensemble.

And on February 23, see Unforgettable, a tribute to Nat King Cole and his daughter, Natalie Cole, featuring pianist and singer Jeanne Hinkson, vocalist Vincent Lamenza and drummer John Colella.

Lunch reservations should be made by the Friday before each lunch. There is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105. In case of inclement weather, a message will be left at that number.
