Genealogy Club Virtual Meeting To Cover ‘New Avenues Of Research’
“Jurisdictions Explained: Finding New Avenues of Research for Your Family” will be the next program hosted by the Genealogy Club of Newtown. The speaker will be Diana Elder, who will show how exploring each level of record keeping for a locality can reveal additional records for a research subject.
The program will also help guests learn about records on the town, city, county, state, regional, and federal level, and how to locate them.
The virtual event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 9, at 7 pm, via Zoom.
All are welcome to participate. Registration is required and can be done by sending name, address, phone number, and e-mail address via e-mail to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com. Everyone planning to attend is asked to sign in around 6:45 so that everyone is admitted before the program begins at 7.
Diana Elder is a professional genealogist accredited in the Gulf South region of the United States. She serves as a commissioner for The International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists.
She is the author of Research Like a Pro: A Genealogist’s Guide, and co-authored the companion volume, Research Like a Pro with DNA: A Genealogist’s Guide to Finding and Confirming Ancestors with DNA Evidence.
Elder graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in elementary education and has turned her passion for teaching to educating teens and adults in proven genealogy techniques. She presents regularly at genealogy conferences, sharing the methods she uses every day to solve challenging genealogical problems.
Elder created the study group and eCourse that teach the Research Like a Pro process through videos and learning modules. She and her daughter, Nicole, post research tips on their website, Family Locket, sharing ideas for finding ancestors and keeping them close to the heart. They are also the hosts of the Research Like a Pro Genealogy Podcast.
Genealogy Club meetings are co-sponsored by C.H. Booth Library and are held on the second Wednesday of the month from September through June.
