SCAN Presenting 'Color In Winter' At Municipal Center
Nearly 50 works of art were hung in the main corridor of Newtown Municipal Center on January 23. The collection represents an annual offering by members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN). The exhibition, “Color in Winter Show & Sale,” will remain on view weekdays until February 27.
The exhibition, with 46 works of art representing 25 artists, stretches nearly the length of the municipal center’s southern wall. SCAN members were allowed to submit up to two works for the exhibition.
Show Chair Suzanne Molineaux had a large group of artists helping hang the exhibition her last Friday morning. She was very pleased, she said, with the art they had to work with.
“I think we have a good variety of pieces and styles,” Ms Molineaux said January 23. “We run the gamut, too, from new artists to more experienced artists and longtime members of SCAN.”
One artist who easily fits into the latter description, Adele Moros, who was scheduled to offer an artist’s demonstration at the municipal center on January 28. Ms Moros, said Ms Molineaux, “is a tireless artist and teacher. She does a lot of work. She’s a very steady worker who gets a lot of things done.”
Due to Winter Storm Juno, however, Ms Moros’s program was cancelled.
A reception for “Color in January Show & Sale” scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been postponed.
“We don’t want to skip it, but we just weren’t going to be able to get everyone there on Wednesday, not after all of this snow,” Ms Molineaux told The Newtown Bee on January 27. “We do want to have a reception. It’s just so hard to plan things in January and February.”
A list of all of the artists who have work on view is available, on a table with additional information about the artists’ group hosting the show. The list does not include the names of the works on view, but each piece, Ms Molineaux pointed out, is tagged with each artist’s name and the price of the work.
“If anyone would like to make a purchase, call me and describe which one you are interested in, and we’ll work together,” she said.
“Color In Winter Show & Sale” is a bright, colorful presentation of work that will continue to greet all visitors of the town building at 4 Primrose Street for four more weeks. Still lifes, landscapes, etchings and other works are doing exactly what the creators of this annual presentation were hoping for when they created the winter exhibition.
Newtown Municipal Center, within Fairfield Hills at 4 Primrose Street, is generally open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 5 pm. The public can also access the exhibition during town board and commission meetings. Show Chair Suzanne Molineaux can be contacted at 203-730-0762.
