Disruptive Student
Police report that the school resource officer at Newtown High School was contacted about 12:15 pm on January 19 by school officials about the presence of a disruptive student at the schoolâs main office, so police investigated the situation.
Police said they charged the unidentified youth with second-degree breach of peace. The student who was arrested is under age 18 and is considered a youthful offender, so the personâs identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
After arrest processing, police released the student on a written promise to appear on January 28 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.
Keys Found
Midday on January 22, a person found a set of keys near the intersection of Boggs Hill Road and Sugar Street, according to police.
The set of keys includes a key to a Toyota-brand vehicle. Police ask anyone with information on the found keys to contact Officer Scott Smith at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Camera Theft
Police report that on the morning of January 19, they learned of an incident at Newtown High School from the high school security staff.
Following an investigation, police determined that a 16-year-old male student had stolen a camera that belongs to the school, police said.
Police charged the boy with sixth-degree larceny. He was released into the custody of his father for a January 31 court appearance.
Because the boy who was arrested is under age 18, his identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
Purse Stolen
Police received a report about 2:45 pm on January 13, that someone had stolen a womanâs purse from a shopping cart at the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.
Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
NHS Incident
Police report that they were called to Newtown High School about 1:30 pm on January 19 because a boy there was exposing himself.
Following an investigation, police arrested the boy on a charge of second-degree breach of peace. Police said the boy was released into his motherâs custody for a January 31 court appearance.
Because the boy is under age 18, his identity is shielded from public disclosure under state law.
MV Charges
After investigating a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road about 12:20 pm January 19, police said they issued to two violations to motorist Brandon Sheehan, 34, of New Milford.
Police said they charged Sheehan with failure to obey a traffic control signal and with driving under suspension. Sheehan was released on a written promise to appear in court on February 1.
Church Hill Road
Police said that after seeing motorist Bertha Banks, 61, of 14 Evergreen Road talking on a handheld cellphone while driving at about 7:20 pm on January 22, they stopped her on Church Hill Road to investigate.
Police said they charged Banks with driving with a suspended license and with talking on a handheld cellphone while driving.
Police said they released Banks on a written promise to appear in court on February 1.
DUI Incident
While on patrol about 10 pm January 23, police stopped motorist James Widmann, 53, of 74 Hattertown Road to investigate on Wasserman Way.
Police said they subsequently charged Widmann with driving under the influence, interfering with police, and with making a restricted turn.
Police released Widmann on $400 bail for a February 8 court appearance.
Drug Charges
Police said that they stopped motorist Kevin Riley, 25, of Redding about 1:18 am on January 25 on Church Hill Road, near Main Street, to investigate.
Police said they charged Riley with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, and failure to obey traffic signs and markings.
Police said they released Riley on $100 bail for a February 8 court appearance.
Cellphone
Police report that at about 12:20 pm on January 16, they spotted motorist Jean Hughes, 52, of 1 White Oak Farm Road talking on a handheld cellphone while driving southward on Main Street, so they stopped Hughes to investigate.
Police report they charged Hughes with talking on a handheld cellphone while driving and also with driving with a suspended license.
Hughes was released on a written promise to appear on January 27 in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Snowplowing
A 1996 International van was parked, unoccupied, on the eastbound travel lane of Rose Lane about 8:26 am on January 25, as Kevin Belden, 34, of Waterbury was driving a town-owned 2000 Western pickup truck with snowplow attached eastward while doing snow removal work, police said.
The Ford then struck the International, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Belden for traveling too fast for conditions. Police said they verbally warned the unspecified driver of the International for improper parking.
Too Narrow
Police said that Raymond Bresson, Jr, 64, of Southbury was driving a town-owned 2005 Ford pickup truck westward on Swamp Road about 2:23 pm January 24, as motorist Eugene Kelly, 49, of Seymour was driving a commercial 2011 Ford pickup eastward there.
The left, exterior rear-view mirrors of the two vehicles then collided, police said. Police noted that the passable section of the roadway was narrower than normal due to the presence of snow.
There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Buttonball
Police report that at about 5:50 pm on January 25, motorist Richard Temple, 22, of 197 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck northward on Buttonball Drive, as motorist Maureen Marotto, 52, of Waterbury was driving a 1993 Dodge Shadow sedan southward there.
The Ford then crossed the roadâs center line, resulting in a collision with the Dodge, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Temple for failure to drive to the right.
Arrowhead Lane
A two-vehicle collision occurred on Arrowhead Lane at a sharp bend in the road where the street is very narrow at about 5 pm January 25, police said.
Motorist Danielle Brackett, 29, of 15 Walker Hill Road was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer westward on Arrowhead Lane, as motorist Nerry Javier 27, of Bridgeport was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker eastward there, police said.
The two vehicles then came into contact with one another. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned each of the two drivers for failure to grant one-half of the roadway.
Snowy/Slushy
A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road at its intersection with Queen Street about 9 am January 25, when the roadways were covered with snow and slush, police said.
Motorist Beth OâKeefe, 49, of 45 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 2008 GMC station wagon carrying three passengers eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped for a traffic signal at the intersection, police said.
Motorist Andrew Hsu, 17, of 17 Old Castle Drive, who was driving a 2003 Honda station wagon eastward on Church Hill Road, failed to stop in time on the slippery road and drove into the rear end of the GMC, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Hsu a written warning for failure to keep a reasonable distance apart.
