Aileen Kerns, a Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Penn, 2010 graduate, was awarded the Robert G. Mowry Award. Each year, according to the university, one Susquehanna University Honors student receives the Robert G. Mowry Award for demonstrating superior dedication to the Honors community, as well as exemplary leadership, peer mentoring, and extracurricular participation. Aileen plans to pursue a career in pediatric and rural medicine.

“My favorite part of being a Susquehanna University student in the Honors Program is the fact that my goals and ambitions were well known in all my Honors courses. In addition, SU professors and staff supported my dream to study abroad in Ireland for a full academic year and participate in several service-learning trips to impoverished countries,” Aileen said. “My independent research experience consisted of collaborative work with Dr Margaret Peeler and two other SU students that focused on characterizing gene sequences that have been identified in sea urchins, in order to learn more about their role(s) in early embryonic development.”

Peter John Wlasuk was named to the University of Connecticut’s fall 2010 semester Dean’s List.

Central Connecticut State University President Jack Miller announced the university’s fall 2010 Dean’s List. To achieve this academic distinction, an undergraduate student at CCSU must carry at least 12 academic credits during the semester and earn at least a 3.50 grade point average out of a 4.0 scale. Newtown residents named to the Dean’s List were Ashley Cronin, Danielle Nicolosi, Rachel Nicolosi, and Katie Pessin. Sandy Hook residents named to the list were Aadil Ansari, Ashley Balsano, Shannon Kennedy, Cassandra Montanez, and Kevin Walsh.

Claire Elizabeth Ober, daughter of Garry and Jennifer Ober, was named to the Duke University, Durham, N.C., fall 2010 semester’s Dead List. Claire is studying for a bachelor of science degree in neuroscience.

In Lewisburg, Penn, three Newtown students made Bucknell University’s Dean’s List for the fall 2010 semester. Abigail L. Atkinson, daughter of Glenn and Mary Atkinson and a 2006 graduate of Newtown High School, Lauren N. Kostes, daughter of Stephen and Nicoletta Kostes and a 2007 NHS grad, and Kristen K. Tanner, daughter of Richard and Dawn Tanner and a 2010 NHS grad, were named to the list.

David Wilkins of Newtown was named to the fall Semester 2010 Dean’s List at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. David received Second Honors on the list, with a grade point average of 3.7 or above on a 4.0 scale.

In Fairfield, Sacred Heart University named Sandy Hook resident Lauren Hanulik to its fall semester’s Dean’s List. To receive this honor, a student must achieve a 3.6 grade average, based on a 4.0 scale.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic, named multiple local students to its fall 2010 semester’s Dean’s List. Named from Sandy Hook were Kyle D. Droniak, Brian C. Duffy, Marley I. Koschel, Bonnie L. Lundblad, and Anthony W. Gruce. From Newtown were Cristina E. Parks, Jessica A. Edwards, William E. Covill, and Kaila E. Harrington.

In Burlington, Newtowners Jillian G. Spies and Elisa L. Van Buskirk and Sandy Hook residents Alanna M. Gilbert and Michael A. Mouchantat were named to the University of Vermont’s fall 2010 semester Dean’s List. To be named to the university’s dean’s lists, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

The following students have been named to Dean’s List at Western New England College, Springfield, Mass., for the fall semester of 2010; Gabriella C. Ruggiero of Sandy Hook, Marisa Kadar of Newtown, and Caitlin N. Tefft of Sandy Hook. Students are named to the Dean’s List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.30 or higher. Also at the college, Rachael A. Marlin of Sandy Hook was named to the school’s President’s List. Students are named to the President’s List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.80 or higher.

In Smithfield, R.I., Bryant University named Newtown resident Mathieu de Brantes and Sandy Hook residents James Bowers and Shane Wurtz to the school’s Dean’s List.

Victoria Cardoso of Sandy Hook, was among the 278 students who graduated from SUNY Oneonta, Oneonta, N.Y., following the fall 2010 semester. Graduates were honored at a December recognition ceremony hosted by College President Nancy Kleniewski. Victoria earned a bachelor of science degree in adolescence education for chemistry.
