William G.    Hare
William G. Hare, 73, of New Fairfield, died January 23 in Danbury Hospital. A longtime resident of Newtown, Mr Hare was born in Bridgeport July 31, 1931, son of the late William and Anne (Pavia) Hare.
He graduated from Middlebury College as a Bread Loaf Scholar, with a bachelorâs degree in political science and a masterâs degree in English. Mr Hare was a middle school assistant principal in Stamford, and later taught at the Beta Academy in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
His other interests included publishing, art, and politics. In 1990, he founded the Liberty Party, and ran in the Fifth Congressional District race. Running as a Republican in the 1992 New Hampshire primary, he almost beat vice president Dan Quayle.
For many years he published The Academic Journal and The Singles Journal. A self-taught painter, he won several exhibition awards.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Hare, of Old Greenwich; two sons, James and William of New Fairfield; grandchildren Willem and Isabella; a sister, Barbara Hare of New Haven; a brother, Mickey Hare of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St Peterâs Episcopal Church on the Green, off Route 111 in Monroe, on Saturday, January 29, at 2 pm.
