Jennie Hleva Novak

Jennie Hleva Novak, 90, of Stratford, died January 20 in Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Stratford.

Mrs Novak was the widow of John Novak and is survived by her two daughters, Elaine N. Barry and her husband, Kenneth J., of Newtown, and Roberta O’Byrne of Wallingford; six grandchildren, Sharon Zielinski of Meriden, Donald O’Byrne, Jr, of Meriden, Deborah Melycher of Prospect, Donna Liberatore of Alpharetta, Ga., Timothy O’Byrne of Wallingford, and Jeffrey Barry of Naugatuck; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Hleva of Stratford; two sisters, Mae Schubert and Mildred Fant of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Donald O’Byrne, Sr, a sister, Ann Kuchma; and a very dear friend and companion of many years, Ernst Nagel.

Born in New York to the late John Hleva and Anastasia Darmol Hleva Datzenko, she was a longtime resident of Stratford. She was a retired inspector for Warnaco and was a parishioner of St Mark Church.

Jennie was a gracious, loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on January 25 at St Mark Church, Stratford.
