The Newtown-Sandy Hooks vintage base ball team will hold its first meeting on Monday, January 30, at 7 pm, in the basement meeting room at the Cyrenius Booth Library.
The local nine enjoyed a successful inaugural season in 2005 and have big plans for 2006. Anyone interested in playing ball or interesting in supporting the team is invited to attend. With a busy schedule of games and tournaments and the hopes to field two teams, there will be need for people to help coordinate schedules, teams, practice and game venues, travel, marketing and budgets.
The Hooks have been invited to âmarchâ in the Hartford St. Patrickâs Day Parade on March 11 with the Hartford Senators, Simsbury Taverneers and Bristol Barnstormers (led by former major league pitcher Jim Bouton) and they will be playing in 1886 and 1861 rules tournaments in Pittsfield and Ipswich, Massachusetts.
