President At Rock Ridge Country Club

Isabelle MacKenzie Murray, beloved wife for 38 years of Robert T. Murray, died January 26 with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs Murray was born to Roderick and Margaret Lee MacKenzie of Fairfield and lived in Newtown for the last 26 years. She attended Regis College, where she met her husband.

Mrs Murray worked at The Newtown Montessori School for ten years and most recently worked at the Wesley Learning Center. She was elected to the Newtown Board of Education in 1986 and served for 12 years. She held various committees positions, including vice chairman during her last four years.

Mrs Murray was a member of Rock Ridge Country Club since 1987, where she elected as the first female president 1999, serving three years in that position. Most recently she earned a lifetime membership at Rock Ridge to the Board of Governors for her extraordinary service and commitment. Besides her dedication to her family and community, Mrs Murray enjoyed golfing, reading, and gardening.

In addition to her devoted husband and parents, Isabelle is survived by her three loving children, Robert T. Murray III and Kerry Murray of Newtown, and Lee and her husband, Doug Moore, of Westford, Mass. She is also survived by the lights of her life, her three grandchildren Abigail Isabelle, Matthew Joseph, and Lindsey Lee Moore. Mrs Murray is survived by her brothers Roderick MacKenzie of Menlo Park, Calif., Malcolm and his wife, June MacKenzie, and David and his wife, Mary MacKenzie, of Fairfield; and her sister, Missy and her husband, Michael Cumings, of Huntington; her aunts; and 36 nieces and nephews.

Her family asks that donations be made to the Newtown Scholarship Association, PO Box 302, Newtown CT 06470 or to the Newtown Relay for Life, PO Box 831, Newtown CT 06470 in memory of her extraordinary service to the community she loved so dearly.
