Discovery Science Workshops

In Need Of Leaders

The Newtown Junior Women’s Club, in conjunction with the Newtown Board of Education, is looking for members of the community to help with the 14th annual Discovery Science Workshops.

The workshops will be held on Saturday, March 25, from 9 to 11:30 am, at Newtown High School. The Discovery Science Workshops are offered free of charge to children in kindergarten through the fourth grade.

The Newtown Junior Women’s Club is currently looking for adults to lead two, 45-minute hands-on workshops on a variety of topics including architecture, volcanism, bubbles, color, conservation, pollution, photography, animals, and computers. In the past firefighters, doctors, emergency medical technicians, veterinarians, and canine police have volunteered their time to instruct children in the workshops.

A Connecticut certified elementary teacher is available to assist in the development of a lesson and already prepared lesson plans are also available.

Anyone who enjoys working with children and has an interest in science is encouraged to contact organizers Laurie Borst at 270-1415 or Stacie Doyle at 426-8012 by Tuesday, January 31.
