Catholic Schools Week Events At St Rose

Catholic Schools Week is an annual national celebration of the educational role that Catholic elementary and secondary schools provide for students throughout the country. The purpose of Catholic Schools Week is to build community awareness of, and involvement in, Catholic schools across the country. Catholic Schools Week is observed this year from Sunday, January 29, through Saturday, February 4.

St Rose School will be offering a number of events to be held that week. On Saturday, January 28, the school will kickoff the upcoming week with a 5:30 pm mass at St Rose Church to be followed by an Italian buffet in the hall. On Sunday, January 29, student volunteers will speak at Sunday’s masses about their experiences at St Rose.

A pep rally is scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, January 30, in the St Rose Hall. Later that evening the annual faculty versus eighth grade basketball game will be held at 6:30 pm in the Newtown Middle School gym. Following the game a foul shooting contest and 50/50 raffle will be held.

On Tuesday, January 31, singer Mike Kachuba, will perform two shows in the hall at 9 and 10 am, sponsored by the St Rose Cultural Affairs committee.

On Wednesday, February 1, instead of the traditional uniform, students are encouraged to wear clothing the color of their favorite vegetable to school. Parent volunteers will provide a “souper lunch” that day for the students.

On Thursday, February 2, students are encouraged to bring unwrapped baby items such as diapers, wipes, formula, and clothing, to school. These items will be delivered to the Daughters of Charity in Bridgeport to help young mothers in need of baby supplies.

On Thursday students and faculty will be served a cupcake treat with lunch, provided by parent volunteers. Additionally on that day bus drivers and crossing guard personnel will receive notes from the students.

The week activities will culminate with a St Rose Family Fun game show to be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, February 3, in the hall.
