2006 Newtown Nighthawks Winter Guard Extravaganza
2006 Newtown Nighthawks Winter Guard Extravaganza
The Newtown Nighthawks Winter Guard will present its ninth annual Winter Guard show, âWinter Extravaganzaâ on Saturday, January 28, at Newtown High School. Twenty-four Color Guard teams from Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey will compete in six classes, which are ranked by difficulty of routine. Elementary school students compete in the Junior class; a combination of elementary and middle school students compete in MS or AAA class and high school students compete in either AA, SA, or SO class.
The Newtown Winter Guard program has grown tremendously this year with a total of 62 members performing in four classes: Junior, MS, AA, and SA. Winter Guard is referred to as the âSport of the Artsâ; it combines elements of music and dance with militarylike precision. Winter Guard is one of the fastest growing of the performance arts. The groups are judged on use of equipment, movement, ensemble analysis, and general effect. Winter Guard is an international sport, with guards in ten countries.Â
The Newtown SA Guard will be competing in the WGI (Winter Guard International) Color Guard World Championship held in Dayton, Ohio, in April. The guard is currently fundraising to help defray expenses.
The show begins at 5:30 pm. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students/seniors. Food is available. For more information contact the main office at 426-7646.
