Butterfly Gardening Subject Of Program

Carol Lemmon of the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station will give a talk and slide show on Butterfly Gardening at the C.H. Booth Library at 25 Main Street in Newtown on Tuesday, February 15 at 11 am.

The talk will cover the identification of Connecticut butterflies, which plants in the garden provide the necessary larval food sources and nectar for adults, and what can be done to encourage the survival of these beautiful soaring insects. By choosing certain plants we can help to establish butterfly populations that will return year after year to our urban landscape.

Ms Lemmon specializes in regulatory and forest entomology. She uses her expertise in natural history to provide information about birds, butterfly and moth rearing, and butterfly gardens. After the talk Ms Lemmon will be available to answer questions specific to your yard and garden. Come learn the difference between a gypsy moth caterpillar and a Monarch butterfly caterpillar.
