Expected Blizzard Bumps More Games
Just a couple of days after snow postponed several Newtown sporting events, Mother Nature is at it again. The anticipated Monday through Tuesday blizzard caused several Newtown High School sporting events, originally slated for Tuesday, January 27, to be rescheduled a day in advance.
Both varsity basketball games — the girls at home against Bunnell of Stratford, and the boys at Bunnell — were moved to Thursday, January 29, at the same locations and times (7 pm). The gymnastics team’s scheduled visit to Pomperaug of Southbury was also switched to Thursday, with a start time of 6 pm.
The high school boys’ swimming and diving team had its meet at New Fairfield changed from Tuesday to Friday, January 30; start time remains 4 pm.
With forecasts calling for snow to continue late into Tuesday night, time will tell if it will be cleaned up in time for school to be held on Wednesday and, thus, for scheduled games to take place that evening. The wrestling team is slated to take on host Danbury and Bethel at 5 pm, and the hockey team is supposed to tangle with the Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury team at Danbury Ice Arena at 5:30 pm. As snow flakes began to fall late on Monday morning, those Wednesday games were still on the slate; check back or visit nighthawksports.com for updates.
