Pauline L. Petersen, 59, formerly of Bethel, died January 21 in Bradenton, Fla. She was the wife of Ronald E. Petersen. Mrs Petersen was born in Danbury, November 6, 1947, daughter of Henry and Olive (Palmer) French.

Besides her husband, she is survived by stepsons Michael James Petersen of Newtown, Ronald W. Petersen of New Milford, and John Lutinski of Illinois; daughters Cheryl Gillen of New Preston and Mandy Salza of Kentucky; stepdaughter Wendy Schweepy of Florida; a sister, Janice Reagan of Walton, N.Y.; and numerous grandchildren.

She moved to Bradenton from Bethel in 2004 and was a member of the Red Hats Society in Bradenton. She was a retired nurse and loved fishing and gardening.

The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Saturday, January 27, at 2 pm. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, Saturday, from noon to 2 pm.

Memorials may be made to a charity of oneâs choice.

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

Discusses Moratorium

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
