Building Contractor And Advisor

Jan F. Sokolowski, 56, of Southbury, formerly of Newtown, died January 17 at Griffin Hospital. He was the husband of Christine (Kacprzynski) Sokolowski. Mr Sokolowski was born August 26, 1950, in Poland, son of Nikodema (Wojenski) Sokolowski of Stratford and the late Anthony Sokolowski.

He came to the United States when he was 8 years old and was raised in Stratford. He graduated from Bunnell High School and had attended Bryant College in Rhode Island and Johnson & Wales University. Mr. Sokolowski resided in Southbury for more than 20 years.

Mr Sokolowski was former owner of Johnny’s Fruit and Produce in Bridgeport and was member of the Carpenters Union, Local 210. He was a self-employed building contractor and presently a home building advisor. He was a communicant of St Thomas the Apostle Church and as a young boy was a communicant of St Michael’s Church, Bridgeport, where he served as an altar boy.

Besides his wife of 34 years and his mother, he leaves a son, John Joseph Sokolowski and two daughters, Tanya Sokolowski LaBonia and her husband, Leonard, and Donna A. Sokolowski, all of Southbury; and three grandchildren, Natalie, Isabella, and Robert LaBonia. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A brother, Joseph Sokolowski, predeceased him.
