At Brookfield Theater
BROOKFIELD CENTER â Due to unforeseen conflicts, Brookfield Theatre for the Arts will be unable to produce William Mastrosimoneâs Extremities, auditions for which were to be held this weekend and performances of which were to begin in March.
A new production has been announced and auditions scheduled.
Open auditions for what will now be the first show of the 2007 season, The Diviners, written by Jim Leonard, Jr, will be held Sunday and Monday, January 28-29. Auditions will run from 7 to 9 pm each night. The show is expected to run weekends, March 9-24.
The Diviners is set in rural Indiana during the Great Depression, at a time when water and faith are in short supply. In the small town of Zion lives a boy named Buddy, who is haunted by the memory of his motherâs drowning death while trying to save him.
The accident leaves Buddy with the mental capacity of a child but with the gift to divine water. Rejected by some and misunderstood by all, he finds a friend in the smooth talking, broad shouldered ex-preacher C.C. Showers. The two outcasts find a common bond and help each other divine for truth, faith and hope.
Director is Alicia Dempster, who will have additional information including full rehearsal schedules, available during the auditions. Descriptions of the roles are available at the theaterâs website, BrookfieldPlayhouse.org. Sides from the script will be provided during the auditions.
Rehearsals will begin February 5. Those auditioning are asked to bring dates and times of any expected conflicts. Principal and supporting roles require more rehearsal time, while featured roles have more flexibility at the beginning of the rehearsal period.
Auditions will be held at the theater, on Route 25 (behind the library). For more info visit the website or call 775-0023.
