Honoring Dr King
Honoring Dr King
To the Editor:
On Monday, January 21, we commemorated the birth of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. He was an incredible man who was intelligent and brave, and who fought for what he believed in despite the controversy over his beliefs.
Ms King and Mrs Handlerâs sixth grade cluster at Reed Intermediate School did a study on him. We learned all about the meaning of his âI Have a Dreamâ speech, and we watched a recording of him reading it live. We all thought it was very interesting.
In honor of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., our cluster was assigned a project to be completed over the weekend. We were told to do something over the weekend that would change our world, whether it be keeping your room clean the entire weekend or raising money to give to the Newtown Dog Pound. It also had to be something different that we wouldnât normally do. Every student had to do this, and they had to be ready to come to writing class the Tuesday we got back, and write about it. I am writing this letter to you because I have a special request for all of Newtown. I am asking for all of you to do something that will change your world, whatever it may be. Dr Martin Luther King Jr sacrificed so much, so in honor of him, I think everyone in Newtown should do something, big or small, to show Dr King that his legacy still lives on and that we still appreciate him today.
