Boys 7th Travel

Newtown 55 – Ridgefield St Mary’s 32 – Newtown overcame a 17-15 halftime deficit and had balanced scoring, led by Nick Gerbo who had 13 points and Connor Quinn (12).

Newtown 64 – Westport PAL 48 – Nick Gerbo had 14 points, Dan Hebert scored 13 and Gavin Scallon added 10 as Newtown put together the highest point scoring effort it has ever had.

Newtown 47 – New Milford 45 – Connor Quinn scored 13 points and Nick Gerbo and Gavin Scallon each had 7 in another close game between these teams. Newtown beat New Milford in overtime in December. 

Westport PAL 55 – Newtown 44 – Newtown was led by Kevin LeBlanc (10 points), Connor Quinn (9) and Gavin Scallon (8).  With the defeat, Newtown fell to 9-7 overall (3-3 in league play).

 

Boys 6th Travel

Newtown 51, Easton 19 – Mike Davis and Matt Hoyt each had 13 points to lead Newtown to the win. Nick Cagganello and Jonah Muniz each pulled down 7 rebounds, while Conner Gallagher had 2 steals to lead the locals.

Newtown 36, Southbury 31 – Jonah Muniz led Newtown with 10 points while Matt Mossbarger and Bubba Le Blanc chipped in 7 and 6 points, respectively, in a league win over Southbury. Matt White and Logan Puleri each pulled down 4 rebounds. Mossbarger also had 8 assists and 5 steals in the contest.

Newtown 52, New Canaan 33 – Matt Hoyt led the locals in scoring with 12 points and Jim Parker contributed 9 in the win over New Canaan. Mike Davis led Newtown on the boards with 9 rebounds while Logan Puleri pulled down 7 rebounds. Matt Mossbarger had 5 steals to lead the defense.

Girls 6th Travel

Newtown 34, Westport 21 – Mary Joe Rossi had a great game with 10 points and 10 rebounds, leading Bounce scoring. Jenny Indelicato had 1 basket and 4 points from the free throw line. Kerry Scallon put in 6 points from the floor and grabbed 11 steals. Jessi Principi scored 4 points. Tess Murray played hard 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

Wilton 26, Newtown 18 – Newtown got within 4 points, but were unable to overtake Wilton. Amanda Crowell sunk 2 baskets and made one free throw. Mary Joe Rossi had 1 basket and 4 free throw points. Kristie VosWinkel also scored on a foul shot and led with 4 steals. Danielle Shine had the most rebounds at 6, and Kerry Scallon had 5.

Junior Boys

Gunners 35, Wildcats 32 – Christian Sayegh popped in 13 points and Eric Fiore contributed 9 points. Great defense by Ivan Hutchison and Austin Eckstrom hit the game winner. Ryan Dunnigan grabbed 8 rebounds and Charlie Helgren had 4 steals for the Gunners. Mario Pisaghelli dropped in 13 points with some help from Jamie McDonald with 7 points. Chris Otero and Richard Greenwood played well on defense for the Wildcats.

Maulers 51, Statesmen 19 – Justin Devillis dropped in 21 points, while Mac Murlock grabbed 12 rebounds and Christian Mather took 5 steals for the Maulers. Chris Erikson was high scorer with 5 points and Graham Derrickson with 5 steals and Will Fletcher with 4 rebounds led the Statesmen defensively.

Tarheels 38, Avalanche 31 – Evan Noonan drove in 8 points. Don Morrissy with 4 assists, Matt Spencer with 3 steals, and Pat Riccardi with 5 rebounds led a strong defense for the Tarheels. Sean Burson popped in 12 points and Matt Shannon contributed 9. Sean Burson had two 3-point shots. The team played a good game defensively with Jimmy Russo grabbing 8 rebounds, Sean Burson with 6 steals and Ben Stoller with 3 assists for the Avalanche.

Avalanche 48, Bears 33 – Eric Sutton dropped in 12 points, Sean Burson 9, and Matt Shannon 8 for the Avalanche. The team played tremendous defense with 5 rebounds each by Robbie Daigle, Jimmy Russo, and Matt Shannon. Ben Stoller had 6 assists and Eric Sutton 5 steals; Trevor Carey grabbed 6 rebounds.

Sonics 52, Vipers 32 – Sean Ross led offensively with 20 points, while Kevin Shpunt, Jack Kearney, and Myles Lobuglio played a great game defensively for the Sonics. Blandon Cooper hurled in 9 points and Jeff Grasso and James Pearson led the Vipers defensively.

Regulators 58, Nuggets 31 – Leading the Regulators offensively were Mike Lord with 8 points and Shaun Dardine with 6 points. Everyone scored this week for the team. The Nuggets Alex Arend popped in ten points, while Sean Decker grabbed 11 rebounds. Scott Schmidt, 5 blocked shots.

Huskies 59, Nighthawks 52 – Reid Schmidt dropped in 17 points and Jeff Hoffman contributed another 9. Dillon Kelly, Don Fedak, and Jack McManus played great. John Corsi played a phenomenal game. All players scored for the Huskies. Mike Scharfenberg popped in 24 points for the Nighthawks. Morris played great defense and sparked the offense with 12 points. The Nighthawks fell short in the third quarter by 21 points and cut the deficit to seven.

Nets 47, Pride 34 – Offensive leaders for the Nets were Patrick Thornberg with 10 points and Austin Puleri with 8 points. Cullery grabbed 10 rebounds and West and Thornberg each grabbed 11, Phil Reynolds had 5 assists and Austin Ryder 3 steals. The team as a whole had a great floor game. Wyatt Dupey popped in 13 points and Kyler Harmeling contributed 11 points. Charles Loomis with 5 assists, JP Kitzmiller with 4 steals and Tom Bauer with 5 rebounds led the Pride defensively.

Junior Girls

Suns 31, Huskies 18 – Jade Mather drove in 11 points while Courtney Tenney contributed 8 points. Emily Nacewicz with 5 assists and Rachel Wiberg with 6 steals led the Suns defensively. Katie McManus popped 8 points and Alex DeWolfe brought in 6. Ali Blume and the team played a good defensive game.

Rebels 23, Knicks 21 – Christina Caporale dropped in 7 points and Caitlyn Dowling contributed 6 points. Defensive leaders were Kaitlyn Vos Winkel with 4 steals and Erica Kroesen with 12 rebounds. The girls never gave up. The Knicks’ Lia Tassinari and Kelley Gaston each dropped in 6 points. Outstanding 2-way game by Tassinari. Rachel DiVanno grabbed 7 rebounds.

DaBears 20, Hawks 16 – Molly Mahony was high scorer with 8 points. Good defensive play by Kingsley with 6 assists and Bridges with 5 rebounds. Lydia Bieter led the Hawks with 6 points. The whole team played tough defense throughout. Bianca Solano and Caitlyn Gibney led the team defensively.

Mercury 39, Liberty 26 – Alexa Powell led Mercury with 15 points and Georgia Contois dropped in another 8 points. Kristen Grabowski ripped down 8 rebounds. Heather Leone was outstanding on “D.” Good offensive effort by Colleen Cosgrove with 8 points and Kelly O’Sullivan with 6 points for Liberty. Team effort on defense led by Erin Bell and Stephanie Zamary.
