Currituck Road

Police report that at about 7 pm on January 20, they stopped motorist John Rosenschein, 21, of 68 Georges Hill Road for driving fast on Currituck Road.

After investigating, police charged Rosenschein with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.

After processing the charges against Rosenschein, police released him from custody on $100 bail for a January 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

At about 3:30 am January 19, motorist Batchuluun Battoqtokh, 27, of 18 Platts Hill Road was stopped for an investigation because he was seen driving a vehicle on South Main Street which had a broken windshield, police report.

Police said they then gave Battoqtokh field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, driving with a defective windshield, and with driving without a license.

After processing, police released him on $500 bail for a February 5 court appearance.

Berkshire Collision

A collision between a sport-utility vehicle and a pickup truck occurred on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Wasserman Way, about 8:11 am January 16, police report.

Police said a 1995 Geo Tracker driven by Karhantarat Lee, 35, of 72 Totem Trail struck the rear end of a 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by Kris Kling, 17, of 101 Huntingtown Road.

Police issued Lee an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving an unregistered vehicle, police said.

Intersection Crash

About 5:30 pm January 15, motorist Ryan Domingos, 20, of 15 Founders Lane, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord, had stopped at a traffic signal on eastbound Wasserman Way, at its intersection with Route 34, police said.

Motorist Nitesh Patel, 35, of Derby, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla, then struck the Honda from behind, police said. There were no injuries.

Patel received an infraction for following too closely, police said. Domingos received an infraction for driving without an automotive insurance card, according to police.

Slippery Road

About 11 pm January 17, motorist Arun Thathapallichinnaraju, 26, of Glastonbury, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima on snow-covered pavement near 236 Berkshire Road, began sliding on the slippery road, police said.

The Nissan then struck some metal guardrailing, police said. Thathapallichinnaraju was not injured, police report

Thathapallichinnaraju received a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Burglary

Sometime between 9 am and 5 pm on January 18, someone burglarized a home on Pootatuck Trail, according to police.

Pootatuck Trail extends from Narragansett Trail in the Pootatuck Park section. Police are investigating.

Police ask anyone with information on the burglary to contact Officer Thomas Bean at the police station.

Boggs Hill Road

Police report that at about 4:45 am on January 18, motorist Fausto Cadmilema-Dutan, 36, of Danbury was involved in a one-vehicle accident on Boggs Hill Road, in which the vehicle struck a utility pole.

After investigating, police charged Cadmilema-Dutan with making a restricted turn, driving with a suspended license, and driving with insufficient automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Cadmilema-Dutan on $500 bail for a February 5 court appearance.

Vandalism

Police said they are investigating a case of third-degree criminal mischief in which someone broke a lighting fixture near a driveway for a Birch Hill Road residence at about 10 pm on December 24. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact Officer John McCluskey at 426-5841.

Mailboxes

Sometime between 8:30 pm on January 11 and 8 am on January 12, someone vandalized residential mailboxes at two homes on Lazybrook Road. The dead-end street extends from Meadow Brook Road. Anyone with information on the property damage is asked to contact Officer Todd Dingee at 426-5841.

Bicycle Accident

About 7:15 pm on January 18, Robert Coffey, 24, of Locust Drive was riding a bicycle southward on Queen Street, as motorist Laurian Martin, 50, of Bethel was driving a 2004 Saturn sedan westward on Mile Hill Road, police said.

Coffey then entered the intersection of the two streets and was struck by the Saturn in the westbound lane of Mile Hill Road, police said.

Coffey received minor injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene, according to police. Coffey refused transport to the hospital, police said. Coffey told police that the bicycle’s brakes failed, resulting in the bicycle entering the intersection.

Police verbally warned Coffey for failure to obey a stop sign.

Snowplow Crash

Police said that at about 7:30 am on January 14, driver Matthew Popp, 36, of Bethel was driving a commercial 2005 Ford F-350 pickup truck southward near 47 Head O’ Meadow Road and was traveling down the center of that road.

As Popp came around a turn, he spotted a town-owned 1990 GMC dump truck, with a plow attached to the GMC, plowing snow on the road, police said. Jerry Dachenhausen, 26, of 8 Hitfield Road was driving the town truck, police said.

Popp then applied the Ford’s brakes, but skidded on the snowy road, with the Ford’s left door colliding with the GMC’s plow blade, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Popp a written warning for failure to grant one-half of the roadway.

 

New Lebbon Accident

About 9:37 am January 13, motorist David T. Smith, 53, of 41 New Lebbon Road, who was driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza, was exiting his driveway at 41 New Lebbon Road, as motorist Keith M. Baron, 44, of 2 Orange Pippin Road was driving a 1999 Lexus ES-3000 southward on New Lebbon Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Smith for failure to grant the right of way.

Snow Crash

Motorist Donna Barrett, 59, of 9 Little Brook Lane was driving a 2003 Chrysler Sebring sedan eastward on Sugar Street on January 18 and then began to slide on the snowy pavement, police said.

The Chrysler then struck three roadside guardposts. Barrett was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Property Damage

Sometime between 10 pm on January 19 and 7:30 am on January 20, someone damaged two driveway lighting fixtures at a Mt Nebo Road residence, police said. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the damage to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

 

Four Vehicles

A chain-reaction accident involving four vehicles occurred about 2:40 pm January 10 on Wasserman Way, near the ramps for Exit 11 of Interstate 84.

Police said that motorist Beatrice Kumah, 44, of Derby, who was driving a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder, struck the rear end of a 2001 Toyota Sienna, which was driven by Elizabeth Adam, 41, of 15 Rose Lane.

That impact pushed the Toyota into the rear end of a 2002 Ford Escape that was driven by Wendy Audet, 43, of 23 Hoseye Coach Road, police said. That impact, in turn, pushed the Ford into the rear end of a 2000 Subaru Forester, which was driven by Gina Voss, 23, of New Fairfield, police said.

There were no injuries. After investigating, police issued Kumah an infraction ticket for following too closely and for driving without a license.

Church Hill Road

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 25 Church Hill Road about 2:19 pm January 10.

The accident involved motorist Robert Masonpierre, 58, of Redding, who was driving a 1997 Mercury Tracer, and trucker Delmar Ross, 68, of Ansonia, who was driving a 1966 Mack dump truck, police said.

There were no injuries, police said. Masonpierre was verbally warned for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Van Vs Pickup

About 5 pm January 18 in evening rush traffic, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Edmond Road, police report.

The crash involved motorist Kyle McCullough, 26, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1985 Chevrolet van, and motorist Ryan Gernat, 24, of Shelton, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned McCullough for improper passing.

Fairfield Hills

Police report a one-vehicle nighttime accident at Fairfield Hills involving a security guard who was driving a town-owned truck.

Police said security guard Frank Reynolds, 62, of West Haven was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastward on Third Avenue, near Greenwich House, about 9:20 pm January 15, when he attempted to make a curve in the road, but started to slide on some ice and went off the right side of the road, striking a parked backhoe.

Reynolds was not injured, police said. The Fairfield Hills campus was closed to the public when the accident occurred, while Reynolds was making his nighttime security rounds there, police said.

Police verbally warned Reynolds for traveling too fast for conditions.

Buick Vs Lexus

On January 21, motorist Amanda Cannata, 23, of Appleblossom Lane was backing a 2004 Buick SUV out of the driveway at 6 Dogwood Terrace, after which the Buick struck an unoccupied 2000 Lexus sedan that was parked across the street in front of the driveway for 7 Dogwood Terrace, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Cannata a written warning for unsafe backing.

DUI Charge

Police said that while on patrol on South Main Street about 1:07 am January 23, they stopped motorist Brian Engelke, 26, of 9 Grays Plain Road to investigate.

After that investigation, police said they charged Engelke with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following processing on the charges, police released Engelke from custody on $50 bail for a February 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Property Damage

Sometime between 5 pm on January 20, and 9 am on January 21, someone damaged a residential mailbox at 48 New Lebbon Road, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 426-5841.

DUI Arrest

Police report that they spotted a motorist parked on Mt Pleasant Road for no apparent reason at about 1:23 am January 23, so they investigated.

Following that investigation, police said they charged motorist Kristen Lebish, 19, of Brookfield with driving under the influence and with improper parking.

After processing, Lebish posted $100 bail and was released for a February 7 court appearance.

Vandalism

Police said that sometime on January 21 or 22, someone damaged a driveway lamp at a Birch Hill Road residence. The lamp is valued at $450, police said. Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact police.

 

Toyota Collision

Motorist Gary Fafard, 65, of 24 Lake Road was driving a 2001 Toyota Highlander northward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Tamarack Road, about 2:12 pm January 22, when while negotiating a curve, the Toyota went out of control, resulting in a collision with an object that caused front-end damage to the vehicle, police said.

Fafard was not injured. Police verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.

Brushy Hill Burglary

Police are investigating a burglary that occurred at a Brushy Hill Road home sometime between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm on January 22. The home is located on the section of Brushy Hill Road between its intersections with Platts Hill Road and Old Town Road. Electronic devices and other items were stolen, police said. Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact Officer Thomas Bean at 426-5841 or 270-8888, or via e-mail at thomas.bean@newtown-ct.gov.

Truck Off Road

About 4:46 am on January 18, motorist Robert Lake, 79, of Country Club Road was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck eastward on Wasserman Way in icy, slushy conditions, when he lost control of truck and then struck some curbing along the right side of the road, police said. The truck then struck some steel guard cabling.

Lake was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Warrant

On January 23, police arrested Sandra Ballard, 47, of Danbury on a warrant, charging her with evading responsibility in connection with a November 15 motor vehicle accident on Church Hill Road.

Police said that on November 15, the vehicle which Ballard was driving eastward on Church Hill Road, near The Boulevard, collided with the rear end of another vehicle, after which Ballard left the scene of the collision without identifying herself. Ballard left the scene of the accident before police arrived to investigate.

 On January 23, Ballard posted $60 bail and was released from custody for a February 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
