Hours Extended For Deliveries

WETHERFIELD — The Department of Motor Vehicles has issued a temporary order that will allow fuel truck delivery drivers to meet demands for deliveries during the current spell of extreme cold weather.

The exemption allows drivers to exceed the maximum number of hours that they are allowed to drive. The Connecticut order is also consistent with an order from the federal government, which set rules through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. This special exemption will last until January 31.

“We want to give the fuel truck delivery drivers, including those delivering natural and propane gas, the opportunity to meet all customer demands during this severe weather,” said DMV Commissioner Jose O. Salinas. The DMV has received reports from some fuel and gas delivery companies that the demand for service was exceeding the number of hours that they could provide drivers for meeting customers’ requirements.
