Applications Now Being Accepted For Vocational Training Award Program
WOODBURY â The Weller Foundation, Incorporated (formerly the Vitramon Foundation, Incorporated) has announced that Newtown High School students may now submit applications for this yearâs Vincent Voccia Vocational Award. The award, named for a former trustee of the Vitramon Foundation, Incorporated, has been offered annually to Newtown High School students since 1986. The Voccia Award will provide financial assistance to a Newtown High School student who has selected a vocational-technical career and will shortly enter vocational training.
Alexander Fraser, Foundation Trustee and Coordinator of the program, said the award recipient will be eligible for a grant equal to the lesser of $2,500 or 50% of the tuition cost of the vocational program proposed.
To be eligible, a student must be entering Newtown High School at the time the award is made, have demonstrated an interest or talent in his or her chosen field, and satisfy the admission requirements of the selected institution. Any qualified student who submits an application will be considered for the award; there are no other requirements.
Mr Fraser said applications for the award must be received by March 31, 2000. The award recipient will be announced on or about April 10, 2000. Students interested in applying for the award can obtain full details and an application form from Mrs Gerry Waterbury in the schoolâs Guidance Department.
The award is named in memory of Vincent A. Voccia, who served as a trustee of the foundation before he passed away in 1980.
