Hattertown Road

Police report that at about 9:17 am on January 22, motorist Lauren Belden, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2018 Toyota RAV-4 SUV northward on Hattertown Road, just north of its intersection with Saddle Ridge Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into a driveway, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a northbound 2008 Nissan Versa auto driven by Alana O’Donnell, 20, of Newtown.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned O’Donnell for following too closely.

Three SUVs

An accident involving three SUVs occurred on Washington Avenue, near Pearl Street, about 9:47 am on January 22.

Eastbound motorist Charlotte Dunbar, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2015 Hyundai Tucson SUV, stopped for some halted traffic, after which eastbound motorist Elizabeth Luzietti, 54, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-9 SUV, stopped behind the Hyundai, police said.

Eastbound motorist Katherine Lurie, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV, then struck the rear end of the Mazda, pushing the Mazda into the rear end of the Hyundai. Lurie was treated at the scene for foot pain by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Lurie received an infraction for traveling an unreasonable distance apart, according to police.

SUV Into Ditch

Police report that motorist Brenna Dilys Nimkoff, 22, of Newtown was driving a 2016 Mazda CX-5 SUV southward on an icy, slushy Poverty Hollow Road at about 8:09 am on January 20, when she lost control of the vehicle amid slippery conditions.

The Mazda traveled off the right road shoulder and then landed in a ditch. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Minivan Vs Pole

Motorist Amy Heller, 45, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey minivan northward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Echo Valley Road, about 10:51 am on January 20 during freezing rain and amid slippery road conditions, when the Honda traveled across the street and struck a utility pole, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Heller for traveling too fast for conditions.

Probation Violation

Police report that they spotted Mark Manley, 48, of Newtown on the morning of January 19 while he was a passenger in a motor vehicle and knew that there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Manley.

Police then served that warrant against Manley, charging him with violation of probation in connection with a past incident. After arrest processing, Manley posted $25,000 bail for a January 30 court appearance.

SUV Hits Sedan

About 10:43 pm on January 19, motorist Stephanie Ortiz, 26, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2010 Toyota RAV-4 SUV northward on South Main Street, near Elm Drive, attempted to slow down on the snow-covered roadway, but then slid and struck the rear end of a northbound 2010 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Zaighum Hashmi, 63, of Windsor Locks, police said.

There were no injuries. Ortiz received an infraction for following too closely.

Theft of Items

Police report that someone sometime during the two-week period preceding the morning of January 18, stole unspecified items from within an unlocked shed located at a residential property at 21 Park Lane. Police ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity there to contact investigating Officer Steve Borges at the police station at 203-426-5841.

SUV Vs Sedan

On westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 5:51 pm on January 18, motorist Dominic Henry, 28, of The Bronx, N.Y., who was driving a 2012 Dodge Journey SUV, struck the rear end of a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Elizabeth Ross, 64, of Sandy Hook, state police said. There were no injuries. Henry received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Stop-And-Go

About 6:39 am on January 17, in stop-and-go traffic on westbound Interstate, near the Exit 10 interchange, motorist Quran Gary, 33, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, struck the rear end of a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by James Fraser, 61, of Shelton, state police said.

Fraser reported pain, but refused medical attention, according to state police. Gary received a verbal warning for following too closely.

Interstate Crash

State police said that at about 7:03 am on January 17, motorist Catherine Mead, 37, of Bayonne, N.J., who was driving a 2017 Mazda vehicle westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, stopped for heavy traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by a 2018 Nissan vehicle driven by Orlando Harris, 29, of Waterbury.

There were no injuries. Harris received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Rollover Crash

At about 9:34 am on January 16, motorist William Guilbeault, 57, of New Milford, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester SUV on the combined Exit 11 off-ramp at Interstate 84, took a curve in the road to the right, but then spun out of control and struck a traffic sign, resulting in the SUV rolling over onto its left side, then its roof, and then its right side, state police said.

Guilbeault was standing outside the vehicle when they arrived. The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident. Guilbeault declined medical attention. State police gave Guilbeault an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

I-84 Collision

Motorist Anthony Carrero, 23, of Middletown, who was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 11, on January 16, at 5:19 pm, slowed and was then stuck from behind by motorist Than Min, 48, of Plantsvlle, who was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Passat sedan, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Four-Way Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way intersection of The Boulevard and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 5:43 pm on January 16. Each leg of that intersection is controlled by a stop sign.

The collision involved motorist Marilyn Alvarado, 39, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2010 Hyundai Vera Cruz SUV, and motorist Tracy Monaco, 46, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Honda Pilot SUV, police report. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Alvarado for failure to grant the right of way after stopping.

Truck Vs Truck

While traveling eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 10:40 am on January 14, trucker Leiren Medina, 44, of East Hartford, who was driving a 2019 International truck, slowed for traffic conditions, after which he was struck from behind by trucker Jose Rubio, 47, of Las Vegas, Nev., who was driving a 2016 International truck, state police said.

A passenger in Medina’s truck reported pain, but refused medical attention. Rubio received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sideswiped

State police report that at about 1:45 pm on January 14, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, trucker Mohamed Adam, 33, of Worcester, Mass., who was driving a 2012 Freightliner truck, sideswiped a 2013 Cadillac SRX SUV driven by Jacob Wilkes, 39, of Danbury.

There were no injuries. State police warned Adam for making an unsafe lane change.
