Robert Bradford "Bob" Jones, 87, of Sandy Hook and Brewster, Mass., died January 23 at Maplewood at Stony Hill. He was born in Brockton, Mass., on September 11, 1930, son of the late Lillian J. Jones and James B. Jones .

Mr Jones grew up in Whitman, Mass., where he pursued his love of sports and excelled at Whitman High. He spent a year at Wilbraham Academy preparatory before attending and graduating from Brown University, where he played on the football team.

He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War at which time he attended Officer Candidate School and attained the rank of second lieutenant. His career as an insurance underwriter brought him from Massachusetts to Connecticut to Virginia and back to Connecticut.

Mr Jones continued to enjoy sports throughout his life, transitioning from his football years to skiing, tennis, and working out at the gym. After retirement, he settled in Brewster on Cape Cod where he shared many cherished years with Patricia McLeod.

His sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Theresa Jones of Sandy Hook, Brian Jones of Hollywood, Fla., and Thomas and Kimberly Jones of Freeport, Maine: and four grandchildren, Caitlin, Liam, and Nathaniel Jones, and Blake Jones, survive him.

Two sisters, Marion Pearce and Hazel Burns, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 26, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, from 5 to 7 pm, with funeral services at 7 pm. Private burial will be at Colbrook Cemetery in Whitman, Mass., at the convenience of the family.
