The 2015 Newtown Car Show is slated for June 20, with up to 250 exotic cars to be presented in the parking lot of Stop & Shop, 228 South Main Street.

As of January 21, just 43 openings remained for car owners hoping to reserve a parking location for their vehicles on what show Co-Chair Chris Sferruzzo is hoping will be a sunny Saturday. Spaces for 250 cars are planned.

Registration is $10 per vehicle, with proceeds to be donated to FAITH Food Pantry. According to FAITH Co-President Nancy Taylor, the pantry plans to share part of this year’s proceeds with the Monroe Food Pantry.

The 2014 show raised more than $1,300 in cash donations for FAITH Food Pantry, along with nearly $9,000 worth of donated goods. The nonecumenical volunteer-driven food pantry has been helping residents put food on their tables since 1983.

This year’s show will be larger and even more impressive than last year, promises Mr Sferruzzo, who is again organizing the show with Rich Marcuccio, the manager for Stop & Shop Newtown.

Mr Sferruzzo, who lives in Newtown, expects to see approximately 2,500 people at this year’s show, which will take place on the eve of Father’s Day.

“We have many of the most exclusive cars in the US attending,” he said. “For that reason, car enthusiasts around the Northeast have circled in our show on their calendars.”

Ms Taylor agrees that it will be a large-scale event.

“The Newtown Car Show is well under way to becoming a huge event for Newtown,” she said.

This year’s show will include a raffle of a brand-new John Deere ride-on mower.

In addition to vendors and entertainers who have been signing up to participate — along with the car owners, of course — others have already begun making donations for the food pantry based at St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook. One family, according to the event’s Facebook page, recently purchased a $1,000 pallet of perishable and nonperishable groceries to be donated to the pantry.

“Donating a pallet of goods — available in $250, $500, and $1,000 valuations — ensures that FAITH gets nutritionally balanced items that they can retrieve from Stop & Shop at the appropriate time to feed many hungry families in our community,” Mr Sferruzzo said.

For additional information call 203-583-7289, send e-mail to newtowncarshow@gmail.com, or visit Facebook.com/newtowncarshow. Vendor openings are still available, at $25 per space; contact Mr Sferruzzo for details.

In addition, Mrs Taylor is looking for volunteers for the day of the show. Contact her at 203-240-9460 for details or to sign up.

Kindness Dream Ride

In addition to the car show, a Kindness Dream Ride (KDR) is being organized for June 20. Chris Sferruzzo says the Dream Ride is for children in Newtown’s schools and it will encourage acts of kindness through the end of the current school year.

Beginning in February, school faculty members will be on the lookout for acts of kindness by students of all ages. For each random act of kindness a student does, an entry ticket will be given to that student, who will in turn put the ticket into a collection box. Toward the end of the school year, 50 tickets will be pulled, one for each car that will participate in the Kindness Dream Ride.

Owners of 50 exotic cars have already signed up to participate in this part of the car show. The ride will take place the day of the car show, with the cars, their owners, and the winning ticket-holders meeting at Newtown High School. The group will move in a speed restricted ride from the high school to Sand Hill Plaza, the car show’s location, with a full police and fire escort, according to Mr Sferruzzo. A professional photographer will take photos of the children getting into each vehicle at the high school.

“The ride will end at the car show, where the Kindness Dream Ride cars will have VIP parking,” said Mr Sferruzzo. A red carpet laid out at Sand Hill Plaza will serve as the setting for a second round of photographs.

Among the cars that are already confirmed for the Kindness Dream Ride are a Dodge Viper GTS, Dodge Viper SRT-10 convertible, La Ferrari, Pagani Huayra, Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, two Ferrari 599 GTOs, Ferrari 458 Speciale, Ferrari F12, Ford GT Heritage, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Ferrari 458 Italia, and two Nissan GTRs.

In addition, a Porsche 911 Turbo S, Mercedes C63 AMG, Lamborghini Murcielago, Ferrari 599 GTB, three Ford GTs (red, white, blue), a McLaren MP4-12C, a Maserati MC convertible and a Rolls-Royce Ghost are also scheduled to participate in the Dream Ride.

Mr Sferruzzo is also hoping to engage the public in the KDR. He is hoping to not only see spectators attend the car show on June 20, but that many people will line the 6.2-mile KDR route to wave at the drivers and their guests as they make their way to Sand Hill Plaza.

Rain date for the Dream Ride and Newtown Car Show is Sunday, June 27.

Four of the Kindness Dream Ride vehicles stopped in front of Shelton House at Fairfield Hills while out for a ride on January 2. Registration for the Kindness Dream Ride is full, but local car enthusiasts can still sign up for the 2nd Annual Newtown Car Show, scheduled for June 20 at Sand Hill Plaza.
