DANBURY â The Western Connecticut chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society would like to remind the public that there are a number of activities and support groups available in this area for those affected with multiple sclerosis, as well as their family, friends and caregivers.
The MS Yoga Group, for individuals affected by MS, meets each Tuesday at DATAHR Rehabilitation Institute, 135 Old State Road in Brookfield. Meetings begin at 7:15 pm. Contact Wendy Hilsen-Bernard at 775-9094 for additional information or registration.
Two MS Aquatics groups, for individuals affected by MS, are available in the area. The first meets each Tuesday and Thursday, from 10 to 11 am, at the Greenknoll YMCA in Brookfield. Another group is available on Monday and Wednesday, 10 to 11 am, at the Northwest YMCA in Winsted. A support group for people moderately affected by MS meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Main Street Rehab Center, 235 Main Street in Danbury. Meetings run 7:30 to 9 pm. Iris Gilligan, LCSW, at 730-5966, is the contact person for this group.
A Caregivers Group also meets the second Wednesday of each month at Main Street Rehab Center, from 7:30 to 9 pm. Contact Iris Gilligan concerning this group.
The group People With MS And Their Significant Others meets the first Saturday of each month at United Methodist Church, on Clapboard Road in Danbury. Meetings begin at 1 pm. Call Donna Loshin, 914/897-3385, for information or registration.
A support group for people with MS meets the second Wednesday of every month at Wisdom House, 229 East Litchfield Road in Litchfield. Information and registration is available from Rachel A. Sampson, PsyD, at 860/496-7809. These meetings run from 7 to 8:30 pm.
Finally, a Telephone Support Group meets every other Tuesday from 11:15 am to noon. For information or registration, contact the Western Connecticut chapter of the National MS Society, 203/838-1033, extension 26 or 27.
