Inmate Assaulted In Garner Prison Cell
In response to a complaint from the state Department of Correction (DOC), state police went to Garner Correctional Institution at 50 Nunnawauk Road on the afternoon of January 12 to investigate a report of an assault at the high-security prison.
After investigating, state police said that inmate Jason Bridges, 29, allegedly struck his sleeping 36-year-old cellmate in the face, injuring him. The cellmateâs lower lip was damaged in the attack, requiring that 20 stitches be made to close the lip wound, state police said.
State police arrested Bridges on a charge of third-degree assault on which he was arraigned January 13 at Danbury Superior Court. Bridges is scheduled to return to court January 28 to enter a plea in the case.
Bridges is serving a six-month sentence at Garner on a conviction for interfering with police.
