NEW MILFORD â On Monday, January 26, from 6:45 to 8:30 pm, orthopedic surgeon Mitchell Garden, MD, will provide a lecture titled âAdvances in Spine Care â Minimizing Neck & Low Back Pain.â
Although most people experience some type of neck or low back pain from time to time, there are some who encounter chronic pain in these areas. This pain often increases in severity, interfering with sleep and daily activities.
Throughout this program, Dr Garden will discuss the many causes of low back and neck pain, what can be done for it, and how to minimize its occurrence. His talk will include information on the various treatment options, both therapeutic and surgical.
This program is free, open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
Then, on Monday, February 2, from 6:45 to 8:30 pm, radiation oncologist Joseph Bargellini, MD, and family medicine practitioner Daren Garb, MD, MPH, will provide a lecture titled âMenâs Health Update: Prostate Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment.â
Prostate cancer is treatable and curable, but early detection is a critical success factor. In this program, Dr Garb outlines the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer, the most common form of cancer for men in America and their second leading cause of death.Â
Dr Garb stresses the importance of yearly screenings for men 50 years of age and older (45 years of age for men at higher risk). He also provides information on risk factors, such as age, diet, family history, nationality, and race.
Dr Bargellini, medical director of radiation oncology at the New Milford Hospital Regional Cancer Center, then discusses the many options and factors to take into account before choosing a course of treatment. He explains state-of-the-art treatments available, including external beam, IMRT, brachytherapy, hormonal, and chemotherapy.
