The next meeting of The Garden Club of Newtown will feature Judy Grabarz, owner of Newtown Florist, with an informative and inspiring presentation entitled “Demystifying Flower Arrangements.” Ms Grabarz and the club will be at C.H. Booth Library on Tuesday, January 27. The program will begin at 1 pm.

Ms Grabarz will discuss floral design basics and flower selection while creating several small arrangements, which will be raffled off at the conclusion of the presentation. Ms Grabarz will also welcome questions from her audience to tailor the presentation to specific interests and concerns.

Ms Grabarz says design is subjective and personal but quality of construction and materials help to create an attractive and pleasing result. Practice and confidence, she says, are key issues to success in floral design.

Coupled with her art and design background, Judy Grabarz began her career in floral design in the early 1970s as an apprentice in a Greenwich florist shop. She has supplemented her personal creativity and years of experience with on-going instructional programs through such industry organizations as Teleflora.

Ms Grabarz is a past recipient of the Florist Improvement Award by the Connecticut Floral Association.  She has owned Newtown Florist since April 2004.

“Demystifying Flower Arrangements” will take place in the Olga Knoepke Meeting Room, on the first floor of the library at 25 Main Street.

The program will not be held if the Newtown Public Schools are closed for weather-related reasons.

The public is welcome. There is a guest fee of $5 for non-members of the Club.  Registration is not required, but additional information is available by calling 203-775-7063.

Newtown Florist Owner Judy Grabarz will be the guest speaker for the next Garden Club of Newtown program, January 27 at C.H. Booth Library.
